From a friend in CT

“I keep my political opinions to myself or I act like a liberal. I rather enjoy “out-wokeing” people. It’s expensive and everyone is “rich” except the homeless and criminals. Virtue Signaling is the most common pastime. The food is great and rivals the best you can get in NYC.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hartford_County,_Connecticut#Income

provides a table of Hartford Counties that you can sort by per capita income, household income or population density to determine where you want or can afford to live.

I object to the notion that New England private or public schools are good. I would bet they push critical race theory, and almost all of the staff vote Democrat.

I went to one, and can agree. Though mine was in Cheshire, and in the '70s-80s there was still a fat RINO contingent to complement the Dems and socialists.

Back then, even the lefties were willing to teach all points of view. I suspect that is gone, now. Parochial schools are hit and miss.

Homes are expensive and taxes are high. What was once called “New England Charm” has been replaced with “New England Snobbery”. Other than that it’s nice.

I’ve Observed similar situations with friends and employees. My suggestion is stall everything for a year. If they go from Texas to CT, there’s a 90 plus % chance they’ll be begging to get back to Texas in less than a year. Those big buck offers sound great but when they figure out those big wages don’t cover twice the COL they’ll be back in Texas. You’ll just spend a lot of time and money chasing somebody else’s mistake. Sit tight.

Yikes, hubby and I are packing right now to move back to America: Bluffton, South Carolina, to be exact.

I've lived in Connecticut most of my life. I call it The People's Republik of Connecticut now... it is so woke and leftist. Get ready for higher taxes, and a much higher cost of living than in Virginia (except for maybe the DC area).

And much colder (and more expensive) winters. We are dreading what the price of heating oil will be for our next fill-up. CT is one of the most expensive states in the US to live in.

Oh, and bring a decent supply of stupid face masks... people still wear them everywhere in CT. Masks are a must for 99% of doctor and dentist visits in CT.

Best of luck to you...

South of New Haven, it is suburban NYC. North and east it is New England. There are a number of prosperous communities as well as very depressed areas scattered through that State.

I would not for a fraction of an instant ever consider living in Connecticut.

Near Hartford Hospital.

The medical care is great in CT, but the cities (ie Hartford) are AWFUL. VERY dangerous these days. Hubby and I avoid Hartford and other large CT cities like the plague now.

Moved there from Long Guy-land in 72 and made it out alive in 84 and not a hint of communism in me. Straight into the military.

Ct is not that bad.

If you're rich and don't mind the democRATs taking a big chunk of your money and *wasting* it, year after year... decade after decade...

That’s a great point about the I84 glare-I had forgotten about it. Brother lives in Waterbury and another in Stonington. I like Stonington-more rural and closer to the shore.

If those are ‘no go’ areas (TY for that information) what would be some good suburbs to look at?

Do NOT under any circumstance move to Hartford! My favorite suburbs of Hartford are: Simsbury / Avon / Granby / East Granby / Farmington / Burlington, or east of the CT River: Glastonbury, Marlborough, some parts of South Windsor, Ellington.

I was in Hartford and New Haven for business many years ago. Both were pretty dicey.

Near Hartford Hospital. No more than about 30 minutes driving time.

Darn, I wish our house was ready to sell to you! (We're in the process of moving to SC)

We live in a great semi-rural location in the Granby, CT area (good schools) that is just about 30 minutes' drive to Hartford. Easy access to I-91 yet we are a *world away* from the crime-filled wretched mess that currently is Hartford. (The hospitals in/around Hartford are great though)

We're also just a few minutes from Bradley International Airport. We don't get a lot of jet noise there though.

Personally I would avoid living in West Hartford, which seems nice at first, but there's a fair amount of crime that spills over from Hartford into West Hartford at times. Same with East Hartford and Manchester, CT.

I've lived in Connecticut for the past 9 years, Newtown (in the Danbury metro area). Politics aside, this is a wonderful place. I am surrounded by farms, trees and country backroads in my area that I haven't even fully explored yet.

I know Connecticut is a "blue" state but other than taxes, which are admittedly way too high, the state government barely affects me.

Outside the gritty urban and hoighty-toity areas (like Greenwich and Stamford), it's actually more of a conservative state. Both my state rep and senator are Republicans and very much supportive of MAGA.

Climate is pretty much perfect here. You get a good taste of all four seasons. Tons of great restaurants. Traffic is horrid on the interstates but once you learn the backroads, all is good.

Please let me know what area you plan to move to and I can give you more info. Stay away from the urban, high crime jungles of Hartford, Bridgeport, New Haven, and Waterbury.

In the nicer towns, crime is virtually non-existent. Here in Newtown, the police blotter is nothing but fender benders and cat-up-a-tree stuff. You can say the same for most of the towns here.

I got mugged in Hartford, haven’t been back ....

My husband and I avoid Hartford like the plague. Won't even attend a baseball game at the beautiful Yard Goats' baseball park there. And we are avid baseball fans. They stupidly put the stadium very close to the 'hood. Who needs the aggravation? Stay outta Hartford.

As far as firearms go we have no problem finding places to shoot but purchasing handguns is a pain in the neck.

Same in Connecticut.

I can’t imagine why any conservative would consider moving to or staying in the socialist states that were once Colonies of the New World.

A buddy in NJ says CT has become a bit of a ghost town. People have been leaving, stores closing. I suppose maybe there are real estate deals to be had.
