It appears there is a chance I will be moving to CT in the next year or so. I've never lived in the NE, nor in such a blue state. What's it like? Any advice? My children are grown, but I will be there with grandchildren. Any info on private schools? No need to discuss public schools as that is out of the question.
Thanks
If your tagline is accurate, and that you live on the OBX, you’ll be in for a bit of an adjustment, to say the least.
I got mugged in Hartford, haven’t been back ....
I'm just trying to figure out what will be the adjustments and get through the "I don't want to do this" stage and move on. Thanks
Above Danbury, New Fairfield (went Trump and R in 2020), Brookfield,
Republican friends loved Avon.
.
Washington Depot is beautiful
ok! that’s not so bad. I’m just trying to put a list together of areas to start looking at.
We live in NJ which is very much like Ct. The rural areas are like NJ rural areas. They are nothing like the cities that dominate the politics. We live in a rural area and the politics are conservative. As far as firearms go we have no problem finding places to shoot but purchasing handguns is a pain in the neck.
Sucker!
I’m back home in the northeast now, having grown up here, but lived in NC for 3-1/2 decades.
Been on the OBX many times in the 80s. It’s really changed, unfortunately.
One of the things that surprised me about moving back north was that the typical southern or rural cliches about Yankees were generally not true.
I live in west-central NJ.....mostly rural/farmy....and folks around this way are pretty damned awesome; hard-working, respectful, honest and good.
We visited my Dad’s sister and family in Stamford a lot from the mid 50s to about 1970. It was a great state back then. I hear it’s changed a lot since then.
Exactly,,,unless you want to be illegal.
“...we will move to be close to her and the babies...”
Those grandkids! More than a few plans have changed as a result of grandkids. The wife and I should’ve been halfway around the world now except our kids started popping out grandkids.
Seriously, I couldn’t dislodge “grandma” away from the grandkids with dynamite.
I also now think “grandkids” are kinda special too...
Have fun! ;-)
Dumb question but will she practice full time?
I went through this
Super expensive private college and now both daughters are housewives moms or cut back drastically
500,000 bucks in college degrees later
My doc friends (make) lament this constantly after a few whiskeys at deer camp when they feel free to speak non wokology
Lady MDs and the baby mom pull paradoxes
I think more women are in med school now than men
Not being judgy
I like women raising their kids
But admissions and asset allocation does raise question best how to deal with this
Id be proud of her
But no doubt it’s an issue
A big one
Law firms
Investment banks
CPA outfits
All deal with this situation
CT is pretty in rural areas but it’s too lib for me even as a former Manhattanite
Hartford's racial and ethnic makeup in 2019 was 36.0% White, 42.7% Black or African American, 23.7% some other race, 3.4% Asian, 1.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.3% Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander.
I'd only recommend Hartford hospital if attending for surgery or trauma. Cardiology? Might be better off in an area with a lot of overweight retirees.
Brother and Sister in law live in Bethany, Connecticut. It’s very rural and wooded with big home lots. Only been once but it was very nice, SIL drove to Hartford everyday for work, my google map shows a 45 minute commute.
My wife & I are originally from CT...
All the inlaws (200+) are still there...
We’ve been out of there since we got married (1960)
Even by 1960, it was starting to go full communist...
I’m banished from family events like the Christmas party & Summer picnic since the time I wore a Sarah Palin t-shirt, sweatshirt, and cap to one of them...
Stinking communist bastards, all but the older ones my age... The CT school/indoctrination system, starting in the 1970s, converted all the rest...
Not much can beat watching your legacy grow up.
A lot depends on the part of the state.
It is a schizophrenic state depending if you are north or south, east or west.
