1.5 hours southwest of Anchorage is a town accessed only through a tunnel under a glacier or by sea. A place where almost all of the residents live in one self-contained building with a school, store, church, USPS, and everything it takes to live under one roof. Well, there were very few Ans in Alaska, so now they have Samoans.
That is one place that is not going to gamble it’s future on windmills and solar panels for their survival.
I remember hearing about the town in 1959 when I served in the USAF in Galena. The weather hasn’t changed from what I remember.
They’re probably reminded to carry a rifle when leaving the building.
I motorcycled to Whittier on my trip to Prudhoe Bay from New Mexico. Weather was bad as we waited to be allowed to ride through the tunnel and the locals said, “don’t worry, the weather’s shittier in Whittier”... They were right.
