Astronomy Picture of the Day - Star Forming Region NGC 3582 without Stars

Explanation: What's happening in the Statue of Liberty nebula? Bright stars and interesting molecules are forming and being liberated. The complex nebula resides in the star forming region called RCW 57, and besides the iconic monument, to some looks like a flying superhero or a weeping angel. By digitally removing the stars, this re-assigned color image showcases dense knots of dark interstellar dust, fields of glowing hydrogen gas ionized by these stars, and great loops of gas expelled by dying stars. A detailed study of NGC 3576, also known as NGC 3582 and NGC 3584, uncovered at least 33 massive stars in the end stages of formation, and the clear presence of the complex carbon molecules known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). PAHs are thought to be created in the cooling gas of star forming regions, and their development in the Sun's formation nebula five billion years ago may have been an important step in the development of life on Earth.

MtnClimber thanks!

Wow! I do not care if that is computerized and color enhanced! Beautiful!

And the truth is that the only way we are able to view any of these is through the devices and machines that we created to concentrate light we cannot see, to manipulate it and enlarge it and present these in a form sensible to our vision. This would otherwise be so much dark night sky!

This is a old style film image. No computer..No external power...No CCD camera.

One more non-computerized, old fashioned film image.

Once again, this is fake astrophysics babble...
No one has ever seen a star being formed or how it could happen and why...

We only see stars dying, nova’s and supernovae...

Where would the energy come from?
Also, Gases do not come together to form solids...
It goes against the Gas laws...

And they are both beautiful! But they were also taken with the light concentrating device, a telescope, and a camera that records light over a period of time so that we can see light emitting structures and objects more clearly.

The second photo is probably colorized. There are others that are more or less colored. Tin eye found 198 similar photos to that Art and Science photo but I don't see a point in going through them, its a nice photo so thanks for posting!

Tin eye picture 1 and 197 IIRC.

"No one has ever seen a star being formed or how it could happen and why..."

We really only had the tools to carefully look at the heavens until lately. We do have records of visual observations that go back perhaps 4000 years or so. That said, we have the tools now it is happening all around us! Jupiter is a large gas giant that does not have enough quite enough pressure to start fusion. Its essentially a pre-star, just gathering material and gas, waiting for the right time....Dust and gas lanes in distant galaxie are star nurseries....

"Also, Gases do not come together to form solids... It goes against the Gas laws..."

Well...

Um. water vapor...ice.

Unless you mean the pressures inside a star that result in fusion that progressively produces the other elements. (Not getting into that.)
