...At 83 years old, she just crossed her 50th year working there, a career that started in the days when Ronald McDonald was the actual "burger king."
"Nobody works for 50 years anymore, let alone a fast food restaurant," said Madeline Scales, a co-worker VonDielingen's and the wife of his grandson.
"They worked with me when my kids were little, and I thought, 'Why should I walk out on them?'" VonDielingen said.
Speaking of her loved ones, they've pretty much all worked at the McDonald's too.
"I have three daughters that worked here," VonDielingen said. "I had two son-in-laws that worked here. I had three granddaughters that work here.
"You want something, you got to work for it," VonDielingen added. "It's not supposed to be just handed to you."

—”I wonder what her hourly pay is..”
Those who marry for money; earn it.
Wealth is not determined by possessions, but by wants.
Said some old Greek guy.
“Jeeze, look at the picture. That’s what eating McDonald’s food does to you. Makes you look DECADES older”.
Hey, smart azz. The’s 83 years old.
Read the story next time before you make an idiotic comment.
I wonder if she had health insurance. She didn’t that means I paid for it
Wouldn’t she be on Medicare for the last 17 yrs?
Hmmm...
As a soon-to-be 89-year-old (married to an 83-year-old since 1960), I resent that scurrilous attack on this fine woman...
This woman is a classic example of what American women once were...
—”Laborare est Orare.”
Another good phrase, but with a dreadful association.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbeit_macht_frei
“The expression comes from the title of an 1873 novel by German philologist Lorenz Diefenbach, Arbeit macht frei: Erzählung von Lorenz Diefenbach, in which gamblers and fraudsters find the path to virtue through labour.[2][3] The phrase was also used in French (le travail rend libre!) by Auguste Forel, a Swiss entomologist, neuroanatomist and psychiatrist, in his Fourmis de la Suisse (English: Ants of Switzerland) (1920).[4] In 1922, the Deutsche Schulverein of Vienna, an ethnic nationalist “protective” organization of Germans within Austria, printed membership stamps with the phrase Arbeit macht frei.

God bless her
Meh, I was working at McDonald’s 50 years ago too. I did some other things later on, though.
Most of the employees there were aged 16 to 21. At 33, the age when this lady started, she’d have been considerably older than any of the managers at the store where I worked. I think the district manager was in his mid-thirties. Pappy the maintenance man was incredibly ancient, just about the age I am now.
The morning shift at my local McD’s is primarily seniors and young braceros.
“You ever notice that people working in those fast-food restaurants back in the 70s and 80s were actual adults? I mean, even if they were 18-year olds, they didn’t have the teen mannerisms. These were grown professional adults who was making you food just like as if they were your Mom and Dad.”
I worked at a lot of fast food places around the country during the 1960s and 70s, as a peon and in mgmt, and I agree with you. I used to think of fast food chains as similar to military basic and used to recommend kids spend at least 6 months doing it to help them focus and grow up and be taught to pay attention to detail and wonderful efficiency and order and responsibility.
I learned it from the Rule of Saint Benedict.
Working for a living is a well-known virtue in the Catholic faith.
Sorry it has been misused by some atheist.
Lol - She served me a few times. I had a few cases down in Jackson county a couple of years a go. I always stop for a coffee from McDonalds on my way to a hearing. Southern Indiana servers are all pretty nice.
Nice try, but NO WAY am I going to let McDonald’s off the hook. They only have JUNK FOOD - I’m no idiot.
She’s probably a very rich woman. Back in the day, Macdonalds paid in shares that have split and doubled.
My kids all worked in the fast food/restaurant business throughout high school and college.
Today their professions are: research chemist ,environmental engineer, small business owner, editor, English teacher, phlebotomist, librarian.
The doctors need to study her, living on diet of Mickey D’s all your life.
A typical McDonalds meal of a quarter pounder w/cheese, fries and a Coke would cost you 1.11 in 1972 (or 69% of an hour's pay at minimum wage). Put another way, you would have to work 41.4 minutes at minimum wage for that meal.
In 2022, that same meal would cost you $7.99. Federal minimum wage in 2022 is $7.25 (though many states higher than that). So that meal would require 110% of an hour of minimum wage pay - you'd be working one hour and six minutes in 2022 for the same meal you only had to work 41.4 minutes for fifty years later.
I'm pretty sure that this Geraldine VonDielingen makes significantly more than minimum wage after 50 years of service. Supposing her hourly pay is $75-80 an hour, she can afford nearly ten Quarter Pounder meals for each hour of work, but I'm sure she finds other things to spend that money on.
McDonalds menu in 1972...
Since 1972. That was a good year.
