“In our rules, nobody can sell anything with ‘The Godfather’ or mobsters or anything that denigrates Italians,” John Fratta, a member of the committee that runs the iconic Little Italy festival, held from Sept. 15 to 25, told The Post. “We don’t need people thinking that the mob is running the feast.”
The 2016 decree was added to its vendor rules — and store owners in the area were told that if they want to still peddle the items, they must only be sold inside their shops.
“It’s gone. We don’t want that crap there,” he said of the mob-orabilia.

I guess that the Christopher Walken-Dennis Hopper bit from True Romance is off the dance card, then...
Good for them. Hollywood has immortalized the moronic, criminal Italians over the upstanding Americans among them.
That’s an offer you can’t refuse.
The Godfather does not really denigrate Italians, let’s not be extreme. However, the choice to exclude it from such a festival is a good one.
I’ll take a mobster Godfather over any Democrat pol any day of the week. They’re more honorable.
Good. That stuff doesn’t belong at a Catholic feast.
Exactly!!! Ditto for the Sopranos.
I don’t care what people watch but once again we see a complete double standard and total hypocrisy.
A buck or two along the way would help the freepathon.

And if they want to sell it inside their shops?
"Nice little shop yuz gots here... Wouldn't want anything to happen to it, would yuz?"
Regards,
Exactly. Well said.
It absolutely denigrates Italian Americans as it makes us seem like a bunch of womanizing, whoring thugs.
My problem is not with the Godfather, or the Sopranos for that matter, its the double standard and the faux outrage when certain groups are mentioned (Seinfeld’s Puerto Rican Day Parade anyone??) while awarding this type of broadcasting when it focuses on other groups.
no Cuomo’s of any generation
I have read that real mobsters treat The Godfather movies as canonical and pattern their lives around the fictional characters.
Ultimately these movies are crap.
Yeah, well made and entertaining, people like it, but it’s just melodramatic entertainment.
Worse are all the movies and TV shows it spawned.
So does that mean that we can silence those who mention the IRA...or Irish drunks? Don't be silly.
Same goes for Italians...some are in the Mafia and some are sympathetic. But not all...or even a majority.
Denigrates what? It’s just a movie about a crime family who happens to be Italian. Okay, so a few friends in high school would make jokes about maybe I’m in the mafia, maybe inspired by this movie, but that’s not the message of the film (or book). Are going to go pansy woke sensitive now? Going to look at a movie or book as a tome of microaggressions? No. Gangster stuff is not appropriate for a nice festival. I agree with that. But I don’t think The Godfather is some kind of oppression either.
LOL- learn to read.
Here- let me repeat it for you since you are obviously challenged. My problem is not with the Godfather, or the Sopranos for that matter, its the double standard and the faux outrage when certain groups are mentioned (Seinfeld’s Puerto Rican Day Parade anyone??) while awarding this type of broadcasting when it focuses on other groups.
And whether it is the Godfather or the Soprano’s- it absolutely stereotypes Italian Americans as womanizing, thug whores. Yet while that’s okay- don’t call Rachel Levine a dude.
“There’s been evidence over the years that at least some of the events depicted in The Godfather may well have occurred in real life.”
Irrelevant to my observation, really.
I’m not trying to dismiss your comment or insult you. Your comments are well done and taken.
The movies are professionally done and state of the art.
