A grown man in a Juan Soto jersey intercepted a baseball thrown to a little girl by an outfielder at a Washington Nationals game Thursday night.
Avery Hilliard, 10, a youth softball player, came with her glove to the weeknight game - ready to catch a ball. But, when player Joey Meneses lobbed one into the stands where Hilliard and her teammates where waving their arms, an adult man towered over the children, snatching the ball and quickly turning away.
'Out of no where [the man] stands up and takes the ball. He had no remorse and his girlfriend was just sitting there laughing,' Gina Hilliard, Avery's mother, told DailyMail.com
Gina was recording her daughter lined up in the front row of the stands when Meneses threw the ball clearly intended for the kids.
Avery held her softball glove up high as Meneses threw his baseball toward her. 'Catch it, catch it,' one teammate eagerly screams.
Within a blink of an eye, the unidentified man in the Soto jersey comes in from off camera and intercepts the ball that was only a foot away from landing in Avery's glove.
'What?!' one incredulous girl can be heard saying in the video while Avery turned around in disappointment.
The still unidentified man swiftly walked away without making eye contact with the young baseball fans.
Gina posted video of the baffling interaction on Twitter with the tag: 'Grown man steals baseball from little girl.' It has since gone viral with nearly 4.5 million views.

I always thought it emasculating for a man to wear a jersey with another man's name on it. I can see a girl wearing a Tom Brady jersey but for a man to wear one (unless his name is actually Tom Brady) is rather gay.
I've gone to a lot of ballgames in my day but when I got to be about 14 or so, it became undignified to chase after a ball hit or thrown into the stands. Unless it came right at me (and that never happened), I just let others chase after it as it rattles around the stands. It's just a baseball. You can buy these in the sporting goods section of Walmart.
“I think all the balls have some sort of laser/3D/futuristic marking on them and someone from the home team comes out and scans it. Puts it in a data base somewhere.”
LOL!
I responded to the “blame ebay” comment. A generic ball tossed into the crowd by a player isn’t anything that is going to command a good deal of money, as that comment was alluding to.
the player shoulda had a ball sent up to the girl
Whos got knocked over in this video? I didn’t see it.
I think we’ve reached peak outrage. Life is hard kids. You don’t always get what you want.
Two homeless people are talking in an alley:
“Why are you down here?”
“Too many drugs, man. Gotta get clean. Why you here?”
“Fired. Caught a ball in the stands meant for a little girl. Boss saw the video and got pissed. Bank saw the video and called in my mortgage. Credit cards got canceled by angry lenders. Now I’m out on the street!”
If it was a record breaking home run ball I could understand it. He would still be a complete ass and deserve a beating in the parking lot, but I could understand it. Publicly stealing a $50 ball from a kid I just don’t understand.
Next time I’ll ask a youngster what it is. That usually explains most things that seem like sorcery to me.
Bill Burr had a great talk about why today’s kids are fat. They never have to fight for a ball. Bill mentioned that when he was a kid he was always getting boxed out in the fight for a foul baseball. You Tube Bill Burr and Baseball Kids. His viewpoint is funny.
“I always thought it emasculating for a man to wear a jersey with another man’s name on it.”
It shows the infantile nature of so many fans. I once caught a Jim Rice home run at a Spring training game (it was pregame BP, and it was on the first bounce); I was immediately tackled by a bunch of other kids, and I dropped it. That was kids. Some of them never grow up at all. Ugh.
Someone should tell the guy about the Internet, video everywhere and social media.
Okay since you lack reading and comprehension skills let me help you out.
“Freepers I’ve seen the DM run several stories like this but this is the first time I’ve posted one.
I don’t understand this. Grown ass adults knocking over kids for the baseball that is knocked in the stands. Sometimes it’s not always men, it’s women too.
When I was a kid if some adult caught one often they look to the kid near them and hand them the ball. I don’t ever remember them knocking over or beating out a kid to get it. “
What have I said here?
I said that I’ve read more than one article like the one I just posted on DM. This is the first one I posted, but there have been others.
Now If I’m talking about kids being “knocked down” and that did not happen in this article then that would imply this happened in one of the other articles I read.
I also said that it’s not just “men but women” now women were not spoken of in this one, so there fore it’s past articles I’m speaking of.
The point I was making is I’m seeing bad behavior in adults at baseball games and it’s becoming a trend.
Baseball, like Tennis used to be a Gentleman’s sport and I see no gentlemen here. What is going on?
Yes but he also tough those girls a valuable lesion. The world is full of A-holes, don't expect kindness from strangers.
Maybe he will meet the Chik-Fil-A guy at D-Bags Anonymous.
There’s a baseball collector named Zack Hample who has a reputation for doing the same thing this guy did. The players know who he is and refuse to toss balls in his direction. He’s also been restricted from going after balls where he’s not supposed to be.
This is DC. Why would anyone expect civilized, decent behavior?
As I recall, the Nationals invited Biden to throw out the first pitch of a season, but not Trump. Don’t go.
What ya wanna bet it was a politician?
Unless she had a baseball glove on and was the obvious recipient, I think any fan who can catch the ball is entitled to it.
It is my understanding that any ball that a fan can catch is normally retainable by that fan.
