EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners

DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.

From FaceBook:

Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more

Another precious marmalade!

Good morning. Did you have a good night without cats?

I was up “late” and woke up again at 0200 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I finally did but set the clock for 0700. It’s taken this long to boot up the computer and have breakfast. (With dyslexic fingers.)

I should probably go get dressed before I freeze. Another overcast day today. I plan to write at least one letter, then work on the rest of the Nativities. I hope I have enough padding on these to help them weather the coming move.

The big job will be rearranging the closet, since I’ll be working in there a bit off and on. The bedroom is the smallest room, of course, but it’s actually claustrophobic for me. Still, I have to work at getting it sorted out.

Which episode of Death in Paradise was it?

My favorites will always be the first two years with Ben Miller. He’s kept working since then, but nothing stellar. His comedy roles seem to have been major flops, being canceled after a season or two at the most.

Kris Marshall seems to have done a lot of good stuff, including the period-piece, “Sanditon.”

The one with the country club, where the one guy murdered his brother with a golf club. At the end, Florence was offered the undercover job going after the woman drug kingpin.

Jake was around last night, but not too annoying. Kathleen and I are going with the Boy Scouts this afternoon to do maintenance at the oldest cemetery belonging to Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, where we meet. The congregation was formed in 1757, so I’m really looking forward to seeing its original site.

Weather is chilly and slightly overcast, but we’ll dress warmly and wear boots.

Ah, yes, that was a very good DiP. The next one is a nail-biter. As far as DiP episodes go, that is!

Going to the cemetery sounds very interesting! If you run across any really old headstones, could you take a pic, please? My late eldest sister spent quite some time listing all the headstones in the small town of Brainard MN. She was even in the newspaper because of her efforts. I don’t think even the sexton knew who was buried where.

I’ll just be here, doing something Saturday-ish.

FS is back but didn’t text me when he got in. This morning, he sent me a pic of his “new” car. So now he and Mari will have a VW each, but Ma doesn’t get one, even though she asked nicely with a “pretty please,” and “I’ll be willing to pay for parts.”

I hope the visit with your relatives is a pleasant one! Will they be staying long?

Good job on the Triplet! As many as I’ve gotten I still find myself looking at the solved puzzle and asking, “Did I do that?”

If none of the VWs really works, that doesn’t seem helpful.

Yes, I will take pictures of anything picturesque.

The one he has (green) is working well. He takes me for a ride in it periodically. He will restore this one (red convertible) as well. It’s what he does. He buys them, restores them, and sells them on. He’s probably done six in the last 20 years, with only the last one being sold “as-is” to someone who was looking for “a project.” That happens often in the VW world.

Now I need to get busy doing something.

Back from the cemetery. The good news is the weather was decent and there were a lot of people, so it was quick. The first bad news is that the markers were very eroded, so not much to photograph. The other bad news is that the back door of the van won’t open from the inside. It already wouldn’t open from the outside.

Looks like we’re forced to get it fixed, now.

Ah. Sometimes, the eroded tombstones are quite legible when photographed, like petroglyphs. But I understand not being able to do it for one reason or another. It’s OK, as it sounds like you were in too much of a hurry, anyway.

Ohno! So sorry about the back door on the van! I hate when I’m forced to do something that will cost time and money.

PW sent me a text earlier asking if I was OK, and I figured out she just wanted someone to talk to because FS isn’t back yet. ETA 0300. She had gotten someone to stay with her last night (young girl from the ward) so I was quite the afterthought. Which is fine. I was a little short with her, but then told her I was in another relapse, so maybe that will excuse my rudeness.

It’s Carol’s birthday today, and I tried to call earlier, but no one answered so I figured she was either out with her husband somewhere or at the doctor’s. She’s not going to have any chemo or any kind of radical treatment, so it may be that Roy was caring for her and wouldn’t stop. Good for him. He needs to focus on her.
