WASHINGTON, Saturday, Sept. 6.
Gen. POPE, at his own request, was yesterday relieved of his command in order to enable him to prefer charges against Gens. FITZ JOHN PORTER, FRANKLIN and GRIFFIN.
The Third Army Corps, (MCDOWELL's,) and the Sixth, (HEINTZELMAN's) are to be consolidated, and Gen. HEINTZELMAN placed in command.
Gen. POPE has nearly completed his official report, a part of which was submitted to the President yesterday.
PHILADELPHIA, Saturday, Sept. 6.
The Washington National Republican says it was currently reported on the streets and in the hotels last evening, that Gen. POPE had been relieved of his command at his own request, in order to bring charges against Gens. FITZ JOHN PORTER and SUMMER, and a General of Artillery, whose name we did not get, for disobeying orders.
REPORTED MOVEMENTS OF THE REBELS
WASHINGTON, Friday, Sept. 5 -- P.M.
The city maintains its usual quiet. There is nothing new from the front. Everything in the military line is working well, and a feeling of security everywhere prevails.
A report prevailed this morning of a battle last night or yesterday afternoon, at or near Poolesville, but nothing can be ascertained to confirm it. Probabilities are too often made to assume the form of facts.
Gen. BURNSIDE's troops are by this time in position. Some of them were not long ago seen in this vicinity.
Yesterday afternoon the rebels fired about twenty shots from Ball's Bluff upon a little canal steamer, the Flying Cloud, which plies between Georgetown and Harper's Ferry. Nobody hurt. The steamer has returned to Georgetown.
WASHINGTON, Saturday, Sept. 6.
Farmers from the upper part of Montgomery County, Md., arriving here early to-day, report that heavy firing was heard late yesterday evening in the direction of Nolan's Ferry.

Then pull off your coat and roll up your sleeve
Richmond is a hard road to travel, I believe”
That’s a good one. Some wit in the 2nd South Carolina was struck by inspiration. But no verses after 1862.
Pope relieved at his own request. Right. A minor story, a Col. Sullivan got approval to send more stores to Harper’s Ferry. Good timing that.
The August 30 skirmish of Confederate & Union cavalries at Bolivar, Tennessee was inconclusive, and Confederates continued on their mission.
