If you have a life threatening allergy, do not eat food made by other people.
The life you save may be your own.

Not having to walk in her shoes leaves me uneducated but if I had a deadly allergy like that I think I would have to prepare everything myself

Yes. Yes. Yes.
Some intelligent and well-meaning people do not necessarily know what severe allergies and sensitivities mean for foods such as dairy (not the same as merely lactose intolerant) and sugar (can include natural sugars in juices and honey).

I was wondering if an epipen would help. The article mentions she had one and her husband told her to use it, but the article doesn’t say if she did.
“traces of dairy protein in [the wrap]” — Wow, it is astonishing how little of a substance can kill you if you have a bad allergy to it. You always hear about severe reactions to bee stings, peanuts, and shellfish, but not so often about dairy.

You think it was caused by the trip to India?
To: ProtectOurFreedom
They seem to say that the severity of allergies has risen over the last 50 years.
To: Harmless Teddy Bear
No kidding.
With such allergies, why trust ANY food made by anyone other than yourself/family member?

IIRC there was a Seinfeld episode about this.

That is how I feel about it. If life is that tenuous for you, you damn well should take guardianship of it instead of expecting others to do it.
And if you have kids with those kinds of allergies, you should imprint that mindset on them at the youngest age rather than expecting society to take responsibility for it.
I read some years back about a woman who went ballistic on some other woman because her child was eating a peanut butter cracker while seated in a shopping cart. That really irritated me.
I made some harsh remarks on that which I regret, but my outlook has not changed a bit.

I had high school French. It means “Almost a manger.”

Some not-so-intelligent and not-necessarily-well-meaning illegal immigrants that can’t speak English are getting their food-handling cards here in the good old USA.

One of our foster kids had a banana allergy. Before him I never knew that was a thing.
While he was living with us we always ate at home to make sure the food was banana free.
If we were going to be out I put up a picnic lunch.
He knew better then to eat anything someone else gave him.
He took very personal responsibility for his allergy and kept his allergy kit on him at all times.

My wife has a relative with the severe dairy protein reaction. When he was in the hospital as a youngster for something unrelated. His family warned the hospital. He almost died because they didn't think butter would be a problem. This was in Ontario, Canada.

This story sounds like what happened to friend of a friend... I didn’t know the fellow personally but he had gone to a party and asked several times if a particular dip had any salmon in it. He was told no and tried it... he died shortly thereafter.
I agree with Harmless.... “If you have a life threatening allergy, do not eat food made by other people.”
