We all remember where we were twenty one years ago.
The American people at that time really came together, and it's one of those times our country really felt united. Sadly I don't think the American people would all react that way again.
Our government responded as poorly as one could predict:
* They created a new bureaucracy, Homeland Security. * They started the heavy airline frisking of everyone from little kids to old ladies. * They invaded a country with a secular government that overall protected Christians and kept Islamists in check. * They got us into a 20 year occupation in another country where we fled in disgrace. * They gave out school VISAs to Muslim students, Muslim refugees, and immigrants like candy. * They repeatedly told us Islam was a religion of peace and introduced us to the term "Islamophobic."
As bad as our leaders responded, I can only imagine how much worse it would have been today.
How do you think the following would have responded to another 9/11 attack?
Biden administration and democrats? Trump administration? American public in general?
Your thoughts?
Have another Pabst.
I think we might mourn that FLT 93 didn’t take out congress.
More than one satirist wrote articles about pre- 9/11. One woman (sorry, can’t recall her name) wrote a good one. GW Bush was practically impeached for his DOJ which accused Muslim men over the flimsy evidence of learning to fly jets but not how to land, just being Muslims who looked sneaky at the airports, and Bush being a xenophobe racist. Media piled on.
“I think we might mourn that FLT 93 didn’t take out congress.”
I’ve said that so many times - that if it had
hit the target, all new people.
Pabst will not change the fact that it is a vanity posted as news.
We would blame White Supremacy, have a prayer vigil and have everybody bring a stuffed animal to the site.
Then forget about it.
As a hall monitor, he is more a source of amusement, even more so that he doesn't hear the snickering behind his back.
kinda sad, but still a wee bit funny...
Blame Trump, MAGA, white supremacists, climate change, dying penguins and polar bears, etc....the usual.
The shocker of 9/11 is that instead of starting a process of teaching Americans about the threat of Islam, 9/11 was the start of a process to introduce and promote Islam in America.
Today we teach Islam, we hear the sounds of the prayer calls in our cities, we are importing them at mass population rates, we have elected Muslims to high office and promoted them into the highest ranks of our security services and military.
Instead of making Islam an enemy, it now has been elevated above us as a protected class.
Find Biden
Good question.
I’d like to think that once it became abundantly obvious that the Wahhabi Saudis were responsible for funding, assisting and hiding Al Qaeda...
1. Invoke NATO Article 5.
2. Declare any country or company funding/assisting Al-Qaeda a sponsor of terrorism.
3. Impose sanctions on ANY regime that openly sides with, or shields, Al Qaeda.
4. Follow the money.
4. Invest in regional defences against Islamofascism - but don’t get directly involved in combat missions.
What I wouldn’t want to see:
a. Invading / bombing countries that had bugger all to do with it.
b. Excusing islamophobia inside the USA - surefire way to lose hearts and minds.
c. Attempting any regime change. USA is not the World Police and the world shouldn’t be expecting America to pick up the tab.
I realise (b) might annoy some people - but the vast majority of American Muslims didn’t know anything about Bin Laden’s operations, and didn’t want 9/11 to happen any more than the American Christians did.
Also...
America wasn’t directly impacted by Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait. It wasn’t even compelled by any treaty to go to Kuwait’s aid. But it did, and the mission was limited in scope. America didn’t go in alone. These things counted in America’s favor, even amongst its critics.
Much of the world that criticizes America for what’s happened since the mid-90s, especially as regards Iraq and Afghanistan post-9/11, doesn’t have a problem with how America handled the liberation of Kuwait in the first Gulf War.
It also meant that America dealt pretty decisively with a problem, without having to bankrupt itself in the process.
This model should’ve been deployed after 9/11 when much of the world was in schock, and did think the USA had every right to respond (even Putin offered assistance).
But, for the sake of consistency, everything I said there also applies to Ukraine.
Ukraine is the invaded country. Like Kuwait, and like the USA on 9/11, it had agreements both in the United Nations and outside, that gave it every right to defend itself. Like Ukraine, it was entitled to ask the UN for assistance to repel the invasion, AND invoke any agreements it had to bolster its defences.
Yes, America could’ve said no to Ukraine in spite of the Budapest agreement and its duty at the UN Security Council to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of UN member states.
So a follow-up question from me would be, if NATO member states thought “New York isn’t my problem” how would America have responded if they’d ignored the Article 5 invocation after 9/11?
Because if the USA is entitled to expect signatories on its mutual defense agreement to honor it when the call comes, then Ukraine had the same entitlement. Like it or not, America and the UK (as well as Russia) had a treaty in place that was every bit as binding on all parties as the NATO charter.
That’s easy. They would blame Trump.
I know, but I’m having fun poking the bear.
At least this time he’s being semi-polite. Kinda like semi-fascist...
Nicely played
News indeed
I would not view it as an attack on my country, the USA.
Biden would order F15s to bomb Mar-a-Lago, and the FBI would start arresting conservatives to protect Muslims.
Looking back over the last 20 years, unless we were to rediscover or reinvent our Greatest Generation mentality, I do not want to think about it and do not want to know the answer.
2 weeks after 9/11 Bill Clinton gave a speech blaming America. The democrats went full support of the arabs.
The democrats then got a muslim named barack hussein obama in office and he wanted to to turn building nearby the WTC site into a mosque.
In 2001 I donated generously, for me at least.
But if it’s NYC that were hit again, I wouldn’t donate a dime.
I live in Central Kentucky near a large Army Ordinance Depot that has, among other weapons, chemical weapons (which are in the process of being destroyed).
Suppose some terrorist group tries to break in, steal some of the chemical weapons for the purpose of detonating them in NYC or DC. Further suppose that this attempt fails (it would), but the weapons are detonated here in Central Kentucky killing, say, 10,000 people in Madison and Estill Counties.
What would the reaction of the people in NYC be? “Oh, that’s too bad” is about all you’d get.
