A former U.S. general has forecast the surrender of Russian forces in Kherson, a strategic city in Ukraine.
The Kherson region has been almost entirely controlled by Russian troops since March, when it became the first major city to fall during Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian forces have launched a counteroffensive to take back the critical port city.
Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Mark Hertling commented Monday on a Ukrainian soldier's video from the frontlines showing destroyed Russian positions in Kherson.
According to Hertling's analysis on Twitter, the footage indicated "extremely poor soldier discipline" and "horrible fieldcraft/training" in the Russian army. It appeared that lower-level leadership was in crisis while senior leaders were not circulating information, said Hertling. Meanwhile, morale was plunging and the potential for disease was rising, he said.
The ex-general predicted Russia's "future surrender" in Kherson.

Love Newsweek’s comedy. They’re right up there with the old Mad magazine.
LOL - Wake me up when the white flags go up.
Now THAT's funny! (my favorite mag)
Hey, isn’t he the guy that said he’d organize a coup if Trump ever won again?
“headed for surrender”
The British Internet Propaganda Brigade there is a real unit doing this keeps up the barrage.
One story out quoting a US official is that heavily sanctioned Russia is getting its ammunition from North Korea a nation even heavily sanctioned.
They want to say Russia is so badly sanctioned it needs to use North Korea to replenish ammo stocks.
Makes no sense other than the fact that North Korea is a nation of lower reputation than Russia and the propaganda wants the bad reputation of North Korea to wash off on Russia.
It is unlikely that Mr. Herling is that stupid. What does he think such statements are going to do to his reputation?
It was historic!!
You have to wonder if he had any of the "proclivities" of that organization, and if any of his military subordinates suffered "unwanted attention".
He’ll get something from Frum.
The article is based on an Institute for the Study of War analysis that focuses on Ukrainian success in using HIMARS to destroy bridges essential to the supply of Russian forces in Kherson and in small unit and special forces attacks to degrade the security environment in Kherson. Russia’s postponement of the scheduled referendum there is seen as a clear indication of Ukrainian success. Local surrender is projected as a possible consequence if Russia is unable to properly supply and defend its forces in the Kherson region.
TLDR, Hertling watched the Russian and Ukrainian armies over a forty year period. During that time Russian army was losing what edge it had, while the Ukrainian army eventually turned itself around.
#12. Ignoring his personal politics (there I go, breaking the rules again!), one might think that a retired Lieutenant General, who rose to command the 7th Army in Europe, might actually know something about, you know, warfare?
The head of the Russian Occupation Administration in Kherson, was posting online last week from a hotel in Russia, while his deputy, the acting head, was shot dead in the street in Kherson.
Did this “general” forecast the surrender of the Taliban too?
Where was this guy during the 20 year war in Afghanistan if he knows so much about warfare?
Wake me up when the white flags go up.Putin red-faced as soldiers wave white flag after being flanked by Zelensky's heroes.
