John Lennon’s killer, Mark David Chapman, is up for parole

The man convicted of killing John Lennon more than four decades ago is up for parole for a 12th time.

Mark David Chapman, 67, pleaded guilty to shooting Lennon as the Beatles icon returned to his Manhattan apartment building in December 1980.

He was first eligible for parole in 2000 — and has previously been denied release 11 times.

Chapman — an inmate at the Wende Correctional Facility in upstate New York — was a 25-year-old religious fanatic when he traveled from Hawaii to New York City armed with a .38 Special handgun, 14 hours of Beatles recordings, and a copy of J.D. Salinger’s novel “The Catcher in the Rye.”

A former fan of the legendary rock band, Chapman was reportedly angered by Lennon’s claim that the band was “more popular than Jesus.”

Actually, he was a crazy Beatles fan but let’s not let the facts get in the way of the narrative.

“and has previously been denied release 11 times.”

Anh yet, the lowlife who almost killed President Ronald Reagan is walking the streets and trying to be a rock star!

That was John Hinkley Jr who shot Reagan. So many nuts shooting people at that time they all seem to swarm together.

‘A former fan of the legendary rock band, Chapman was reportedly angered by Lennon’s claim that the band was “more popular than Jesus.”’

This seems like pure revisionism. Lennon’s Jesus quote was 14+ years before the murder, and this is the first time I’ve heard it cited as Chapman’s motivation. As I recall, story in 1980 was that Chapman decided that Lennon, who sang about imagining no possessions, was a big hypocrite after he read about Lennon’s lavish lifestyle with grand homes in Palm Beach, the Hamptons, etc.

but they let the POS that shot Reagan out...

To be fair, Hinckley was demonstrably mentally-ill and he didn't succeed in actually killing anyone. Chapman is a murderer, and the state should be a bit more hardnosed about that.

Too many chances for a parole hearing. In Alaska, if you are denied parole, you are not eligible for another parole hearing for 10 years.

A religious fanatic? Garbage. The last picture taken of Lennon before he was shot shows him signing an album cover for his murderer.

Yes it’s absolute nonsense.

I don’t recall that line of reasoning being mentioned by anyone, anywhere, at the time.

Apparently may be okay with the low level of integrity and character of around half the people in this country today.

Interesting aspect may be the John Lennon fans who are Dems and won’t like the bad guy walking now. At least some.
