Friday afternoon, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of a visitor who fell from the rim west of the Bright Angel Point Trail on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, KTLA sister station KTVX reports.
Responding rangers located the body of a 44-year-old man approximately 200 ft. below the rim. The visitor was reportedly off the trail when he accidentally fell off the edge.
The man has not yet been identified, and additional details have not yet been released.
Rangers say visitors should remain on designated trails and walkways, staying a safe distance from the edge of the rim.

He's been identified {else how do they know his age}, they just are not releasing it to the public.
My wife sat down on the ground twenty feet back from the edge and uttered expletives. She later said, “I got the idea”.
Well that would be me, minus the expletives, LOL
Your wife is smart!…..
My husband, of course, walked very close to the edge.
He’s fearless.
That is especially true on the North Rim, which gets far less traffic and is far less developed.
I know a guy that did a rafting trip through the canyon. He said was pretty brutal. I would imagine that there’s so much to see that people move around a lot.
Death by Selfie?
We have friends who, years ago, walked the trail down & up again in sneakers.
They lost all their toenails!
This guy likened the descent to a trip into hell.
That's why God gave (most of) us brains.
Still no name for the Hiker?
Poor guys 15 minutes of Fame are fading fast.

RIP,
NO NAME.

The commitment to stupidity always pays the same.
“The thing that impressed me most about visiting GC is that there are miles of canyon with NO fences, signs, or whatever.”
On the south side there are plenty of signs warning of the dangers, including the terrain, heat, and need for appropriate clothing, hydration, and fitness, and yet I’ve seen dumb-ass people ignore the warning signs and venture into the Canyon. I’ve seen fat people about 100 yards in who realize they are in over their heads and can’t go any further and can’t walk out on their own. And I’ve seen women walking to the Canyon wearing fashion sandals and open toe shoes. The dumbest of the dumb seem to be Asian women taking selfies while dressed as if they are going to a nightclub.
Sadly these things happen, and are frequently avoidable. I chuckle about the surprise at ice in at the GC. I've been down the corridor trails about a half dozen times always in late winter/early spring. Always snow though it's mud on the trails. Good trout fishing in Bright Angel Creek as well.
Excellent point.
Makes you wonder why, doesn’t it?
It ain’t the FALL that kills ya!
There’s been an awful lot of ‘herd thinning’ going on at our National Parks these days. I guess those campaigns to get more people there are working!

Back around 1974, California was in one of its periodic droughts. In January, we had an unseasonable warm spell and I left before dawn on a hike to the top of Yosemite Falls (which was a trickle that year). I got to the top and had the entire place to myself. Knowing how the mountains can turn on you, I was prepared with the right clothes for sudden bad weather even though it was hitting 70 that day. On the way down, I saw the people you are talking about. Hiking to the top of a high Sierras mountain in January with nothing on them but shorts, t-shirts and sandals. No food, no water, no preparedness for anything
You see that sort all over the land. It is amazing that more of them don’t die.
‘A Freakin’ ‘TIGER!’

This guy any relation to the shoe with the foot in it, found floating in a Yellowstone hot pool the other day?
Going to be a tough competition for the Darwin awards this year.
