A Florida mail carrier who was attacked and savagely mauled by a pack of five dogs has died, officials announced.
Pamela Jane Rock, 61, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital on Monday night, a day after the incident in Putnam County, sheriff’s Col. Joseph Wells said during a press conference on Tuesday.
“A postal family member lost her life in a dog bite attack. The US Postal Service is deeply saddened at the loss of our employee,” a spokesperson for the United States Postal Service said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and her co-workers at this time.”

Several onlookers rushed to pull the dogs off of Rock, and one man fired a rifle into the air several times to scare them off, but they would not budge.
He fired the wrong direction.
Stupid.
With a rifle he should ould have put the barrell practically on a dog and fired. Repeat as needed.
Either he was afraid to get closer or didn’t want to hurt the dogs.

You had the opportunity and the means to prevent some innocent soul from being a victim. You should not have hesitated.
My local SPCA only adopts or rehomes pitbulls for some freaking odd reason.
There’s 5000 beagles in the state of Virginia recently who need owners and my local SPCA isn’t even on the list to receive any, and it’s a very well-run facility but all they have is freaking pets in there, well 95% pits...
A long time ago, maybe 40 years ago, as more mailmen were women and felt they were running into trouble, the USPS wanted to issue guns, few of us regular people could carry then, and many tens of millions of us can’t yet.
I’ve seen a pit bull in full viscous action. It had a yorkie,s head in its jaws and was alternately clamping down and releasing slightly to lap,the blood of the helpless yorkie.
When I first got my pilots license you carried a gun if you felt it was appropriate. The pilot in command was the ultimate authority. No arguments, questions, politics, or other associated bureaucracy needed be consulted.
Mail carriers are the eyes and ears of every neighborhood. They know everything about everyone in their route. Used appropriately that is a good thing. Used for bull$hittery
nefarious purposes like voter fraud by their superiors, that’s a bad thing.
Mail carriers are not federal officers.

Someone should kick his braindead silly ass just on general principles. As I recall the same thing happened in another incident recently. People seem to be forgetting what guns are for.
The town over from me, Lakewood, NJ is 99% Hasidic Jewish.
They get mail delivered on Sunday.
