A California district attorney has found that more than 70% of criminal suspects released on $0 bail between 2020 and 2021 in his county committed new crimes.
The California Judicial Council in April 2020 implemented the statewide Emergency Bail Schedule, or $0 bail, which supporters say makes the criminal justice system more fair for those who cannot afford to get released.
"When over 70% of the people released under mandated $0 bail policies go on to commit additional crime(s), including violent offenses such as robbery and murder, there is simply no rational public safety-related basis to continue such a practice post-pandemic, especially in light of the increasing violent crime rates across California," Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig said in a Monday statement.
The California Judicial Council rescinded its $0 bail order in June 2020, but some counties kept the policy in place. Yolo Count ended its $0 bail policy in June 2021, according to a press release from Reisig's office.

so they completely removed anything to do with Crime ? LOL
Only 70%? Geez, even the criminals are getting lazy.
It’s been that way forever.
Victims don’t get any say?
Aren’t victims of crime “consumers of crime” ?
Shouldn’t there be consumer protection laws for consumers of crime?
California probably doesn’t want to lead the nation on this sort of consumerism.
The other 30% just didn't get caught.

If we can save only one criminal from a life of crime, it’s got to be worth it.
That’s what they voted for.
This is my California. Always setting records. 70% this year. We’ll be shooting for 80% next year. We call it progress.
And another 20% didn't get caught... hard to believe 10% stopped being criminals. But I guess anything's possible.
Duh.

“Only 70%? Geez, even the criminals are getting lazy.”
The other 30% get checks in the mail.
I was just thinking that the next progressive plan is to start paying criminals not to commit crimes while out on bail.
“If we can save only one criminal from a life of crime, it’s got to be worth it.”
Depends on how much it costs. Lawyers are expensive. Prisons are expensive. Counselors are expensive. How much do I care to pay for all of this stuff. Some, but not to excess.
One alternative is let the “criminal” live among the people he’s near and let that group work out the problem.
I’ve heard the KKK “disciplined” whites that were abusive but were ignored by the criminal justice system.
Resurrect the KKK? No. But some vigilante-ism? It will rise if our justice system fails us.
Crime pays. And when the expectation of getting punished drops to zero, it really pays. And when that expectation includes a negative incentive for the victim to even report it, nobody even knows how much there is. And when that happens the media report that crime is decreasing as a result of “enlightened” policies, and the spiral continues.
