Depends on how much it costs. Lawyers are expensive. Prisons are expensive. Counselors are expensive. How much do I care to pay for all of this stuff. Some, but not to excess.
One alternative is let the “criminal” live among the people he’s near and let that group work out the problem.

Resurrect the KKK? No. But some vigilante-ism? It will rise if our justice system fails us.
