Weekly Garden Thread - August 20-26, 2022 [Yes, We Can! Edition]
August 20, 2022 | Diana in WI/Greeneyes in Memoriam

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.

This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

That's a nice looking cabbage.

I've got enough StoneHead seed on hand, and it is a proven variety in my garden so I'm using it up before it gets old.

I'll keep the Kaitlin in mind for next year.

Cayenne I think! Nice! Keep growing them Eric! Shishito peppers, I really like these little peppers! It does not sound like they lasted long!

I wonder how it would work in an escabeche recipe?

Mexican pickled vegetables

Or lacto fermented vegetable escabeche

They would go great in that. I have found they are fantastic in everything. Not a lot of heat and a different flavor dimension. I made a quick dinner last night, ground beef, sautéed onions and shishitos, some pork n beans at the end and a couple of spoonfuls of leftover gazpacho. Delicious.

I was at our Walmart, today. I was able to find wide-mouth lids, which was a first. I bought two packs of 12 each.

As you know, I have MORE than enough rings, LOL!

And since I’m roasting tomatoes today, too, I went looking for a recipe:
