BY JOSEPH BOSCO, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR
Former President Trump seems determined to detract from the substantial accomplishments of his administration, especially its transformation of critical U.S.-Taiwan-China relations.
His behavior since the 2020 election also has deeply damaged the reputation and prospects of the Republican Party, which honored him twice with its presidential nomination and defended him loyally against both partisan attacks and legitimate criticism.
Most importantly, Trump’s actions have seriously undermined American democracy at home and its image abroad.
On China and Taiwan, Trump’s no-nonsense approach startled China’s communist regime, which was accustomed to decades of bipartisan engagement that brought prosperity and military power to Beijing while working to the West’s economic and security disadvantage.
Trump ended that dynamic, demanding transparency and reciprocity from China and using tariffs and sanctions as leverage. For the first time ever in dealing with a U.S. administration, China was put in a no-win situation. If it did not comply with Trump’s trade conditions, the hammer of financial penalties would fall.
But if it made the required changes in its economic system, that also would mean political reform, an existential challenge to Communist Party rule. Chinese leader Xi Jinping did not intend to emulate the evolution of South Korea and Taiwan from dictatorship to democracy.

And I think he's on twitter...
Another a-hole with an opinion.
Another squish heard from...
You know, all this effort to see Trump is discredited.
Why? LOL
Hey, Bosco...the GOP is dying...it’s the MAGA Party now.
Joseph Bosco served as China Country Desk Officer in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (2005-2006) and Director of Asia-Pacific Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Affairs (2008-2010).
He is presently a Fellow at the Institute for Corea-America Studies (ICAS) and the Institute for Taiwan-America Studies (ITAS). He was formerly a nonresident Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a nonresident Senior Fellow in the Asia-Pacific program at the Atlantic Council and part of its international observer delegation during Taiwan’s historic 2000 presidential election.
Previously, Bosco taught a graduate seminar on United States-China-Taiwan relations in the Asian Studies Program at Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service.
He earned his A.B. cum laude at Harvard College and his L.L.B. at Harvard Law School, where his third-year paper on U.S. policy in Vietnam was selected as an honors paper. He obtained his L.L.M. in International and National Security Law at Georgetown Law Center, where his honors paper focused on the international law implications of the 1995-1996 missile crises across the Taiwan Strait.
Well it has never hurt the RATS any. They can get away with murder and it doesn’t tarnish their reputations or betray the DemocRAT cabals.
This one is funny though :”betrayed the GOP”.
It’s like they live in an alternative reality.
He’s a worn out old NWO idiot trying to be relevant.
Pure unadulterated BS.
I stopped at: “His behavior since the 2020 election...”
Because, before that, of course, anything he did was treated without bias.
Guess he conveniently forgets that Cheney/Bush left office with a 22% approval rating. Even Joe doesn’t suck that much.
Typical lamestream media claptrap.
Senile Joe sucks worse, he just has the Ministry of Propaganda propping him up.
Trump - Save the country
Bosco - Save the country club
“... deeply damaged the reputation and prospects of the Republican Party...”
Well, maybe the Republican party, as it is now constituted, needs a little demolition of their “reputation and prospects” in the coming months and years. The reputation, before Trump came along, was to be the “agreeable party”, and the prospects were always to be the minority party, directly as a result of their need to be the “agreeable party”.
And that was buying the RINOs and the Establishment exactly squat. Not even time, as things were working out, and certainly not any love or respect.
One thing I would like to point out here is the dis-attachment from reality in the piece. While this was being written, DT was once again proving that his endorsements carry weight - we may by the end of the day seeing that semipermanent carbuncle Ms Liz C get rinsed away.
But again we’re forced to read about how Trumpy is making it all about election fraud. Oh, please! No one cares about that! :\
And someone got paid for writing it. (There’s a lot of good stuff in the article, btw, about DT’s successes in foreign relations, however. That at least shows some diligence - but then the whole thing falls apart into whining. It’s a hill, all right: A hill of sh1te.)
No one cares about this guy’s opinion.
Trump stood up for democracy against fraud-ocracy.
My immediate thought was that this reads as though it was written by Jeb! Bush/ George Will/ George Conway/ The Turtle.
