Johnson & Johnson will stop selling talc-based baby powder globally

Johnson & Johnson will stop selling its talcum-based baby powder worldwide and replace the product with its existing cornstarch version starting next year, the consumer products giant said late on Thursday.

The move comes after thousands of lawsuits from women in recent years who claimed using the powder gave them either ovarian cancer or mesothelioma, a cancer that strikes the lungs and other organs. The company insists, and medical research on talc also indicates, that the baby powder is safe and doesn't cause cancer.

I have a range of emotions over this. Often I am beyond hacked off that I had a hysterectomy that I did not need because Drs didn’t do a good enough job on the differential diagnosis for what was causing the whacked out blood tests

But most of the time I feel relieved that at least I dont have that damocles sword of Ovarian cancer hanging over my head because those parts are gone!

btw, for those that have never seen a pathology report on the uterus and ovaries...there are all kinds of things that can go wrong. It was a real eye opener. There were a number of things that could have just been laying in wait for the right switch.

Also I had no idea there is an organ called the omentum. It can stick to your ovaries and can cause pain.

I use it for motorcycle and bicycle tube installation.

Better ‘hoard’ some now.

Yep and mothers smoked/drank through pregnancy. They stopped doing that the last 30 years or so and the autism “spectrum”/mental disorders in children skyrocketed.

Maybe moms should go back to smoking and drinking.

They have a duty to their shareholders. If they’re getting sued into the ground (rightly or wrongly), then they have a fiduciary responsibility to minimize risk. Cowardice has nothing to do with it.

If it gets them off of anti-depressants, maybe they should.

I was probably 10 years old, with my first experience with J&J baby powder.

My brother sprayed it on me, and I said "it feels icky".

One. No I don’t believe ALL asbestos can give you cancer. That’s an environmentalist wacko myth. Back in the 90s, I read a book, Environmental Overkill by Washington State governor and DEMOCRAT, Dixy Lee Ray. Not all asbestos causes cancer. That was more or less an ambulance chaser myth. It still is. But hey! Whatever makes them rich.

The omentum—duct tape for surgeons, and useful If a caveman and stabbed by a spear pre surgery days, but otherwise a cancer magnet.

I wonder what the best health régime is for preventing cancer being triggered. It seems like after all these years of cancer research we would have more specific advice than eat parsley, fruits, and vegetables — get plenty of sunshine — get plenty of exercise, etc.

There were two identical twin neurosurgeons in Nashville. One twin developed intestinal cancer and died while the other remained completely healthy for years after that. They must of had the same genetic risk yet only one developed the disease.

It seems I recall something from decades ago when barbers were getting a certain kind of cancer, and many believed it was due to the talcum powder they used.
