Panic at the Top

We make someday look back and mark the Wuhan flu as the beginning of the end for this country's elites.

f the absurd raid on Mar-a-Largo has not persuaded you yet that the Deep State and their cohorts are terrified of their loss of political and cultural dominance, I urge you to read this thoughtful piece by former CIA analyst Martin Gurri. He traces how with the panic over the Wuhan virus, the elites managed a level of control over both the population and the information about the disease and how to treat it.

It’s a wonderful, thoughtful essay and a summary cannot do it full justice, but if you are afraid that we cannot get out of the elite chokehold on our culture and political life, it may give you some comfort. He is optimistic as few are that the elites are rightfully panicked that their cultural supremacy is in its last stages:

Since conservatives and Republicans are politically strong but culturally nonexistent, they will flex their political muscle to try to right the imbalance. Virginia and Florida have banned the teaching of certain progressive doctrines in public schools. When Disney, Florida’s largest employer, vocally condemned these laws, the company was punished with the removal of local privileges. Should Republicans win Congress and the White House, I would expect American politics to experience a cultural Armageddon. [snip][R]aw political power can make the cost of cultural monopoly -- and of idle posturing, Disney-style -- unpleasantly high.

A second threat to elite culture is the defection of the victim class. The cult of identity generates an insatiable demand for victim groups, which, by necessity, must become ever smaller and more marginal not only to the mainstream but also to traditional minorities. Even as the elites solidified their grip on culture,

I wonder how the elitists would feel if the roles were suddenly reversed and they became the despised, disposable ones and the public started treating them as if they are ants that the public can’t avoid stepping on when going about their business?

I hope and pray that it is the beginning of the end of this country’s elites and not for this country as a Constitutional Republic.

In May of 1774, the young Louis (Capet) XVI (1754-93) inherited the French Monarchy at age 19. He was a child of the Enlightenment and saw the need for deep reforms in the government of France, the richest and most powerful country of continental Europe. In spite of his enthusiasms, his efforts at reform largely sputtered against the Paris 'Swamp' of the Court, the Church and the bureaucracy!

History records that within that next generation (20 years), those areas he dreamed of reforming; taxation, land reform, bureaucratic reform, Church abuses (land & education), all contributed to the French Revolution, a bloody disaster for that Swamp! People of privilege deeply desire to maintain the same!

Thus came one of Thomas Jefferson's comments about "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." What should be remembered is the full context quote of 1787 which was in response to the Shays Rebellion in Massachusetts. The DC Swamp sure sounds like the people Jefferson was talking about as 'rulers'!

The people can not be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. [...] And what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure. Letter of Thomas Jefferson to William Stephens Smith (Son-in-Law to John Adams), 13 November 1787. Note that Jefferson was writing from France where he was Ambassador (1785-89).

Our thoughts run in the same channel. (Ref.#7 above.)

——cultural dominance-—

The loss of cultural dominance? I think not.

The left still dominates American culture through the various institutions.

At the very top is the Black American citizenry. When panic made it necessary the institution of the NAACP was negated and a totally new one created called Black Lives Matter. Freeing of the Afro-Heritage citizenry slaves from the Progressive Plantation could not be permitted at any cost.

The Audobon Society, Sierra Club, Presbyterian Church Methodist Church, Anglican Church, United Auto Workers, Parent Teachers Association, National Education Association, American Bar Association and on and on and on are cultural manifestations firmly gripped by the left.

The left still dominates American culture and maintains the rigidly firm grip by weaponizing the law and all organizational means maintain that control

The most important point in the referenced article by Gurri:

American culture will continue to tilt left indefinitely...

We need to do what we can politically but I don't think elections are going to help much. More importantly, for the sake of our children and grandchildren, we need to start establishing a parallel culture.
