I remember awhile ago that I had a fob for two-factor authorization where the six digit code changed every 45 seconds.
Wouldn't something like the nuclear codes now be a real-time randomized system of codes? If so, what difference does it make whether a paper document has codes from two years ago?

On one occasion Clinton’s entourage left the guy who carries tha “nuclear football” behind and he was forced to walk back to the white house. He later wrote a book on the affair. Can’t remember his name.

The day they discovered that Slick lost his “biscuit” I think they would have gotten him a new “biscuit” with new codes by end of business that day.

The codes needed to launch a US nuclear strike are supposed to be kept close to the president at all times.
A department within the Defense Department is tasked with overseeing all aspects of the nuclear-launch process, including the codes.
During Bill Clinton’s presidency, officials from that department discovered the codes had gone missing.

The Lewinsky scandal was a huge and panic inducing event for the Clintons and their entourage. It led directly to a three day missile and air attack on Iraq ‘Operation Desert Fox’ just to try to interrupt the news cycle with distraction and hope Christmas , which was the next week, would buy time as DC mostly shuts down during Xmas-New Years two week gap, to get a counter spin up and going. Not surprised WJC considered Monica to be more consequential than some fuddy duddy nuke code. No nuke war was going to happen so screw it, now Monica and her underwear adventures, now that was a real emergency.

This is a silly story. The only piece of crypto a President needs is an authenticator to verify it is him. He needs no codes! If his military attache had an indication that his authenticator had been lost or otherwise compromised they would have had it immediately superseded and replaced with a new one. I had a long career as half of a two person nuclear control team with assignments to every level and facet of nuclear weapons command and control and compromise of nuclear related crypto, while certainly not a regular event, did happen occasionally. I am certainly no Clinton supporter but I would not believe this story. Nuclear related crypto has always been very tightly controlled material and there are safeguards to ensure even the President could not jeopardize our ability to respond to a nuclear attack. Besides, does anyone think that the president carries his own authenticator or do you think the guy who carries the football does and is always just out of the camera view but no far away has it? Do you honestly think anyone would entrust such an important item would be given to Biden? These authenticators are often called a “cookie” because like a fortune cookie you pop it open to get your hidden message. I could just imagine a confused Biden dunking it in a glass of warm milk.
Hasn’t this allegation been made about every president since Reagan?
I wonder if Monica kept the launch codes as a souvenir of her time in the Oral Office?

A possible explanation (satire)
It was a windy day at the Whitehouse; Bill had just been informed by Madeline Halfbright that she had misplaced her lap top, which she feared might have contained the Nuclear codes. Bill quickly had a staff member find and deliver the codes to him. While at his desk in the Oval Office reviewing the codes, Monica had stealthily crept in and assumed the position under his desk. As she began to fellate Bill, Elanor Mondale called, and started talking dirty to the President about how she wanted to tie him up. As Bill came to climax, he flung the Nuclear codes in the direction of the open window and they were sucked out onto the South lawn. Bill was so excited he did not notice as an updraft carried the codes high into the air and off the White House grounds.
Nobody ever dreamed of enforcing that antiquated law.
