We've talked about some of the problems associated with modern lithium ion battery powered vehicles in the past, but I don't think the possibility of incinerating your family as they sleep, or kids as they ride to school is something that can be taken too seriously. Think before you park one of these potential Hiroshima specials in your garage.
Ok well l guess it only took one
There ‘might’ be a misprint on the 8th word in your statement. SARC
yes but very easy to put out
Matchbooks cause 20 fires for every unit sold.
The FD can put out a gasoline file easily, not so with a lithium fire.
The amount of energy stored in Lithium batteries while massively inadequate in the energy storage category when compared to gas fueled vehicles still stores about 1/3 the energy of the propellant used in artillery rounds. So an 1800 lb lithium battery when fully charged has the same energy as 600 lb of artillery propellant. Which coincidentally is almost exactly the same amount that’s carried in an M1A which is why videos of tanks hit by ATMs look very similar to EV fires.
They don’t know if it was an EV that started it.
A major risk to batteries... in my “expert” opinion. The chances of ignition are 100% for me. I witnessed it first hand. A simple cellphone battery destroyed and totaled a car. I am certain that an EV battery is many times worse.
I know someone who had two houses burn down, gas cars in the garage started both fires.
That sounds like the Chemist’s version of the First Law of Civil Engineering: “Sh!t flows downhill.”
i think the new models are called
firestarter
inferno
fireball
flamethrower
Just by sitting there with no external forces involved? Not running? Spontaneously?
Yes. It’s not that unusual.
Read post 32.
You’re just trying to talk me out of buying one of those overpriced non-sustainable mileage crippled explosive vehicles to harsh my virtue signalling buzz.
Yeah, so? Were they left running in the garage? Were kids playing in the garage? Did one or both of them skip a payment to Louie the Loanshark? How clean were these garages - oily rags left laying around? Any acetylene, oxygen or propane gas tanks in the garage? Leftover fireworks from the Fourth?
“Gas cars start on fire too.”
When in an accident...not spontaneously.
