We've talked about some of the problems associated with modern lithium ion battery powered vehicles in the past, but I don't think the possibility of incinerating your family as they sleep, or kids as they ride to school is something that can be taken too seriously. Think before you park one of these potential Hiroshima specials in your garage.
From my PhD Chemist daughter... Rule-of-Thumb
The more energy you cram into chemical bonds the more unruly they become!
That's probably my biggest objection. We're not doing that with steel, plastic or oil when it comes to an ICE vehicle.
a warm fuzzy feeling
Econazis won’t be happy until everyone eats fake meat and asparagus and has a thumb out for hitchhiking a ride to the next gathering.
Yes! And the more potential for really bad consequences.
About a month ago there was a ship filled with high end EV’s. The story said there was a fire on board, then it was reported the fire was started by one of the cars burst into flames, then the story was the fire was out of control, then the story disappeared.
really bad consequences.
My response whenever someone suggests that i get an electric vehicle is, you go first
Gas cars start on fire too.
It sank with all vehicles on board ...
I don’t want any of those things in my driveway—no matter who owns it!
“Hybrid-powered cars were involved in about 3,475 fires per every 100,000 sold. Gasoline-powered cars, about 1,530. Electric vehicles (EVs) saw just 25 fires per 100,000 sold.”

As I noted in another thread:
"The simple fact is that energy resents being confined and often fights back against the effort. The atom bomb was based on the principle of releasing energy from its captivity at the sub-atomic level and to catastrophic effect. That’s the beauty of fossil fuels. Mother Nature already has taken the nuclear energy of the sun (delivered to earth in the form of sunlight), captured it and buried it in the earth where it was transformed into a relatively stable and energy-dense form. All at zero cost to whoever digs it up to use as fuel."
It will be difficult if not impossible ever to surpass the economy of fossil fuels for that very reason. Nature already did the heavy lifting.
Folks, it doesn’t just happen with drummers.
*A recalled Ford SUV was responsible for a $100 million fire aboard a transport ship in 2015, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. The Vehicle Carrier Courage was transporting vehicles including those belonging to U.S. military families returning from Europe, when a fire broke out below decks, destroying $90 million in cargo and causing $10 million damage to the ship.”

For the entire time they’ve been selling rechargeable battery-powered “vaping pens,” there also have been stories about exploding batteries and pens catching fire. And that’s just a single lithium batter, usually an 18650 cell. A Tesla Model S’s “battery pack” contains seven thousand one-hundred and four (7,104) individual 18650 cells.
Happy Fourth of July!
Wasn’t filled with high 3nd EVs. It was mostly gas cars.

That was my assumption. It’s not uncommon for parking garages to prohibit EV’s from parking in them, l wonder why.
New York has a fleet of ferries carrying people and cars between Staten Island and Manhatten. They are big, each carrying 4,000 commuters and maybe 30 cars.

Now imagine a car catching fire in the middle of the river.
Debunked:

Petroleum is a kind of “binary” fuel. Is is not enough to have gasoline. You also have to have oxygen, which is not stored with the fuel. This is what makes gasoline and diesel so safe. Batteries, OTOH, are self contained and, if something goes wrong, can go off at a moment’s notice with no additional input.
