Large crowds packed Pacifica's Linda Mar Beach Saturday for the World Dog Surfing Championships.
People watched man's best friend ride some waves.
Fans of the event said the dogs look silly, but they were also very impressive.
"I like the gathering. It is a big event. A lot of people from all over come and join us. And then, seeing the dogs actually surf is really a funny thing to watch. And they're really good surfers," said Patrick Sayres of Pacifica.
The event at the beach also had mobile pet adoptions, a dog costume contest and "yappy hour" for drinks.

I used to go down there and watch the sunsets when there was no surface layer fog. Also used to ride my bicycle down there to do the climb up and over to the other side of the bay.
Cold water all year round though...
“Cold water all year round though...” For sure. I have surfed at Pacifica many times. The water is freezing, the waves can be full of seaweed, the breaks are fast and the locals are super friendly. It is boring to watch a dog surf, since it is like watching a box strapped onto a board get carried by a wave. More fun to watch kids surf, since they are full of terror and courage. As they say, “You only go surfing in Pacifica when you have to.”

I attended a 4th of July party in Pacifica about 30 years ago. We were huddled around a firepit in down jackets and knit caps.
The coldest winter I ever spent was the 4th of July in Pacifica.
Most of those dogs have worried looks on their faces.
I can’t imagine the look on cat’s faces if they were surfing.
Those dogs don’t look like they’re enjoying themselves.
It’s called “focus”! ;)
I had a Golden that loved to ride the boogie board.
He would look all anxious and nervous but when he hit the beach he’d jump up and down and run all over the place - then swim out for another ride.
So much fun to watch.

There are times when I’m really concentrating on something that I think I have a similar look.

the test would be to walk back out into the waves with the board and see if that dog doesnt go spaz following you!! ...or leading the way!

some dogs got talent like muh boy Bamboo!! Skateboarding dog who knows exactly what hes doin on a board!! This vid doesnt show many curves, but if you check out other vids that dog steers like a pro!! Enjoy!!

I agree dogs on boards are boring unless you’re the one surfing with them. They are so happy out there and after the session, that evening they sleep well with happy doggie on a hot foam board surf dreams:>)
