Less than a week after Canadian tourists were allegedly overcharged nearly $600 by Greece’s notorious DK Oyster, the restaurant is going viral for yet another incident of alleged epicurean extortion. This time, the Mykonos-based eatery allegedly charged a US couple a wallet-sapping $510 for a dozen oysters and four drinks.
“My husband was like, ‘There’s got to be a mistake,'” New Jersey lawyer Theodora McCormick, 50, told the Sun of the alleged “weird experience,” which occurred last month while she and her husband were vacationing on the Mediterranean island.
Unfortunately, their idyllic seaside getaway went south after they stopped by the seafood depot for a drink. The adventurer said they were looking for a cab back to their hotel when they spotted a sign outside DK Oyster explaining taxis could be hailed from inside.

“No Coke, Pepsi”
Hahaha - sounds like dining in Palermo, Sicily (Been there, done that)
had a similar experience in Greece recently also!
It was in Athens and basically, a very similar thing happened. No prices on menu, pushed certain things hard and then gave an enormous bill at the end.
I felt like it was my fault for not knowing 100% what the prices were, and the fact that we were the ONLY people there should of been a hint in hindsight.
Glad I didn’t go to that restaurant when I was in Athens recently.
I never order anything unless I know the the prices and the current exchange rate to the US dollar.
I got taken like that years ago... well, not quite that bad, but close.
I thought people in Greece did everything they could to not do work, so I’m surprised they had the energy to overcharge.
This happens to visitors a lot in Mexico City.
If you pay by credit card, always choose to pay in the local currency, NEVER select US Dollars.
And stay away from Evil EuroNet ATM machines.
They also mentioned a restaurant in Egypt where the menu was only in Arabic.
One thing you can do is there are now phone apps that allow you to scan a document and it will translate it into English.
Pardon, but what kind of moron goes to a foreign country without any guidance and doesn’t have a clue about cost and exchange rates?
These dweebs absolutely deserve to be fleeced. Kumbya.
So, how were the $40 ersters?
They overcharged so they could make the same money in half the hours...
They ordered those big beers and then 2 martinis? That’s really odd. Waiting for a taxi and ordered two rounds of drinks and food? Was the taxi coming from Italy?
I rarely travel outside the country but when I do I sue the local currency - and eat where the natives eat. Never been to Greece, and don’t intend to go there.
