'I'm so sad': Six Starbucks stores across L.A. area permanently close
LA Times via MSN ^ | 8/03/22 | Summer Lin

Hollywood resident Sara Blair has been living in the neighborhood for the last four years and every morning, she would head to the Starbucks on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street for her daily caffeine fix.

By Wednesday morning, the green Starbucks logo had been removed from the front of the now-vacant building. The store was pitch black inside and the front doors were locked.

That store is one of six Los Angeles locations that permanently shuttered at the end of July due to "a high volume of challenging incidents that make it unsafe to continue to operate," according to a Starbucks spokesperson, who cited the ongoing mental health crisis, drug use and chronic homelessness as contributing factors.

In addition to the six L.A. stores, 10 locations across the U.S., including in Portland, Ore., Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Seattle, were closed. Starbucks employees “in good standing” were given the opportunity to transfer to a neighboring store, the company spokesperson said.

"I'm so sad," said Blair, who works near the former Hollywood and Vine store. "It's my favorite Starbucks."

Blair said that over the years, she had walked by the store and seen the front windows had been smashed in and boarded up. She also recalled one time when she went to get a coffee after work and the store was surrounded by police officers following a "hostage situation," in which someone had allegedly walked into the building with a weapon.

"They keep their doors locked in the morning and when they're closing," she added.

When/if a Trader Joe’s is shuttered due to “a high volume of challenging incidents that make it unsafe to continue to operate” then we’ll REALLY be screwed!

Starbucks: crappy over priced coffee. And all the different sized cups hold the same amount of coffee. Closing a Starbucks store improves the local community.

Sounds like Starbucks did Sara a favor by closing. I would go as far as calling this an "intervention".

No kidding. Funny thing is, I never have to travel further than my kitchen for a cup of coffee, no matter the time of day. In all my years of doing this I have never brewed a single cup of burnt swill. I have never had to stand in line. I have never been forced to interface with leftist morons while enjoying my cup of coffee. I have never had to be forced to order a cup of coffee while starring at some leftist nut job with face tats and enough metal piercings to manufacture a small car. I have never been worried about that same leftist nutjob spitting in my cup.

Always a massive line of idling cars.

Idiots are probably the ones who whine the most about Global Warming.

Starbux is an incredible success story.

Selling a commodity item for 2 or 3 times the normal price and making huge profits.

Our little town has two of them, almost across the street from each other. Always busy.

Wish I’d been smart enough to figure that out....

I know that store well but have never chosen to go in there. It was usually crowded with blacks and the kind of riff raff that lives and works in that area. If you make eye contact with anyone in that area - they’re going to axe you for money or gas because “my debit card just got declined and I have to go pick up my kids”

How strange. Starbucks can’t sell coffee in a liberal wonderland where white men are hunted by savage uncivilized democrat brown shirts , AKA “BLM”. Shocking.

Crappy overpriced coffee that is the product of burnt beans.
I’d rather drink from my Keurig.

365 days a year X $5 a cup = $1825.

She probably does not go on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.

Still that is a lot of money for over priced dish water. MacDonalds has better coffee cheaper

I went to a Starbuck’s once, in an airport many years ago. The server looked fairly normal, but didn’t seem to know what a cup of plain old black coffee was. I don’t speak barista, so it took a while to get the coffee, and then it was almost undrinkably bad. I think people have to get all that other crap added to their Starbuck’s coffee just so they can force it down.

I’ll do without coffee before going to another Starbuck’s.

“Six Starbucks stores across L.A. area permanently close”

On which city block were all six?

Hollywood and Vine? Just guessing that in order to find a more expensive business location, one would have to go to Tokyo.

I don’t buy coffee out very often, but when I do, I drive by three Starbucks with long drive up lines and go to my local mom & pop coffee shop. They roast their own beans and the coffee is so much better than the other crap the wokester’s are selling.

I’ve lived here 10 years now. No Starbucks on the island. No McDonalds, no mall, no big box retailers. No chain stores of any kind. 3K people. 2 bars, 12 churches. No problem.

There is a local coffee roaster and two small coffee shops though.
