The answer to the question is unknown at this time. Why?
Because the infectious dose of MPOXV and its ability to persist and remain infectious on fomites are both UNKNOWN.
The cases we are seeing now are in fact not only among gay men only, but among gay men with sexual histories which are, well, unimaginable if you don't work in the field.
But, all these infected men are leaving virus all over the place. It's too soon to know if all that virus, all over the place, can sustain a chain of infections.
If it can, then MPOX will spread widely. If it can't, it won't.
Not comparable.
There is no environmental spread of HIV. It's a bloodborne infection.
And the infection rate after transfusion of a pint (454mL) of infected blood is 100%.

The key unknown is, how LONG is it contagious after it's not at optimal temperature, and how MUCH virus is needed to transfer an infection.

Just exactly how has never been nailed down. Most people in the field at the time thought it was deliberate.
I recommend that someone determine just what the real nature of this disease is and is not. That distinction was suppressed by those who wished to opportunistically exploit the COVID fears of the public, in order to undermine civil and medical rights of political rivals. Those people are the Left Democrats, usurpers of our freedom and rights, and of leadership in this country. Don’t buy into this idiocy, and it will find its true level, and it will not require vaccine mandates. Never again will we lock down our country~!
Yes, homosexuals are 98% of monkeypox infected. I read on FR an article about an NEJM article that designated monkeypox an STD. It could effect heterosexuals, but not yet. Until then, it ain’t nothing to worry about for people who aren’t indiscriminately having sex with lots of people.

I’ve heard 90% before. I’ve heard monogamous in gay circles means 1 or 2 days where partners can have sex with anyone.

For it to already have spread to 6000 people in the US, someone is having a lot of gay sex with multiple partners.

OMG! I forgot homosexuals can donate blood. They shouldn’t have been allowed to now. HIV ages its infected 14 years, which leads to diseases like HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (dementia) or HAND, cancers, kidney disease, et al. This aging happens even when treated with antiretrovirals. I assume it lowers age of death by 14 years.
