I (eventually) submitted the below email to Senator Rand Paul through his website. A previous version was rejected as a "Security Threat".
======================== Senator Paul,
I'm very proud to say that you're one of my Senators.
I hope you are concerned about Big Tech using its power to remove comments and ideas that they don't like from their internet platforms since the suppression of free speech is the complete antithesis of the idea of the United States of America. Also, Big Tech has reportedly been coordinating this suppression with government officials. Apparently, because they are private companies, they can currently do this.
I believe Big Tech should be regulated much the way utilities are regulated. I'm sure it would be very illegal for an electric company to deny service to a customer because the company doesn't agree with that customer's political views. Similarly, Big Tech should be required to allow opinions that they don't agree with to pass through their platforms.
The basic rules should be very simple:
1) If a post makes a threat to a person or property, forward the post to law enforcement for investigation.
2) If a post makes no threat, no matter how goofy or off the wall it may be, it should be allowed to pass based on free speech.
I hope you will give this serious consideration, Senator Paul.
Thank you.
When I got it down below 1200-characters, it stopped rejecting it for too many characters. However, it closed the page where I was writing and auto directed me to a page that said my request was not accepted BECAUSE IT CONTAINED A SECURITY RISK!
A link to the government page where I was directed is below: https://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/general/one_item_and_teasers/waf.htm
Anyway, I opened a new page, filled in the information required again (name, rank, serial number), made tiny changes to the text and resubmitted it. This time it was accepted.
The above email is within their 1200-character limit and was eventually accepted. But the rejected "security threat" version was virtually identical. Apparently, Big Tech detected a "security risk" to itself.
Although this wasn't done through Free Republic, I suspect that most FReepers, not counting undercover FBI agents, are considered "Security Risks".
Your comments about the email and/or the "security risk" are welcome.
Just like “too many attempts” at a password, you were made to start over from scratch.
Meh...
If you can type something into a Word document it will keep track of characters used for you.
Then just cut and paste. If you have Word, that is.
Very good suggestion, btw.
Cheers!
Dear Senator Paul,
I attempted to send you an email regarding big tech censorship, along with suggestions on how to deal with their politically motivated censorship with conservatives, and others who may disagree with their accepted narratives. The suggestions I presented threatened no one. There was no mention of of any violent actions as well. However, your system keeps rejecting my emails due to some supposed security risk. Can you explain why that is the case?
I believe the above is well under the 1,200 character limit as well, but I'll let you copy & paste so they can count the characters. Too early to count right now. 🙂
See, I missed the 2 repeating of(s). Still waking up. 🙂
> SECURITY RISK!

Harassment, or ‘stalking’
Were you using bullet points?
No, I don't think so. There was only one that was got past the prescreening of the 1200-character limit.
Yeah, thanks. I thought of Word later. Down at the bottom it shows the number of words, but not the number of characters. However, if you click on that it will show you the number of characters.
That’s not a bad idea. I might try to send that as well. Thanks.
Rejected as a security risk by a mass murder organization?
No.
The email was just as I wrote it but here with maybe 2-3 words different but not substantially so. I wanted the next attempt (the one here) to be slightly different in hopes that it would be accepted and not considered a "security risk".
Someone wrote that my failed attempts, because of the 1200-character limit, may have been like trying to log on to a site and you get thrown out after so many attempts. This does make some sense but the "security risk" site that I was directed to didn't say anything like that.
I got a response from Senator Paul but it was just an automated acknowledgment of my submission. I hope to get a real response. I'm not a lawyer and neither is he, but we'll see.
