(Reuters) - Tiger Woods turned down a sum in the region of $700-800 million to join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series, the breakaway circuit's CEO Greg Norman told Fox News.
Norman said the offer was made before the Australian was named chief of the controversial series, which is bankrolled by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.
"That number was out there before I became CEO. So that number has been out there, yes," two-times major winner Norman said in an interview that aired on Monday night.
"Look, Tiger is a needle mover, right? So, of course you're got to look at the best of the best. They had originally approached Tiger before I became CEO. That number is somewhere in that ($700-800 million) neighbourhood."
Former world number one Woods said before last month's British Open that he disagreed with the decision by players to join the LIV Series and compared the circuit, which features huge guaranteed contracts and a 54-hole format, to the senior Champions Tour.
"I think that what they've done is they've turned their back on what has allowed them to get to this position," he said.

Considering the Saudi's view on human rights and how they are now controlling the global oil prices and ultimately screwing the United States, I'm very disappointed in the U.S. golfers who have signed on to their tour......
The PGA tour consists of 45 tournaments with each participant required to commit to at least 15 every season.
For those who haven't been banned for signing on to the Saudi tour, it will be interesting to see what their own personal schedules will be like.

Tiger was worth $700MM at the end of their marriage, due in part to endorsements etc. facilitated by the happily-married story. She held up her end of that commitment, staying at home, raising the kids and being the loyal wife. Indeed, a gold digger would have checked out waaaaay before three kids and stretch marks. HE blew it, and frankly $100MM is fair.
She could be the Whore of Babylon now. That doesn't make her a gold digger then, which was the point. If you want to bring up subsequent behaviors to slime pre-divorce Elin, like libs do with George Zimmerman, go ahead.
