CHICAGO -- A 13-year-old boy was shot Friday after he and at least three others tried to break into a parked vehicle in Hyde Park on the South Side, police said.
About 8 p.m., the boy was among "four to five" men who were trying to breach a parked car in the 1100 block of East 52nd Street when the vehicle's owner, a 34-year-old woman, confronted the group, Chicago police said.
One of the men brandished a handgun, but the woman, who possesses a valid concealed carry license, fired her gun and struck the 13-year-old in the neck, police said.
The boy was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in fair condition, police said.
The other men fled the scene.

If he can convince a jury in a civil case that he was deprived of a profitable career, it won’t be a laughing matter for the shooter. Just sayin’.
Maybe he should have thought about that before trying to steal a car, just sayin’.
Compensation for the rest of its life?
She couldn’t have shot below the beltline, too small a target.
Expecting him to be good at thinking is a stretch. She lives in Chicago. She should think about who her prosecutor is, and whether or not a lawyer can be found that will lie or exaggerate for money before she confronts scumbags while armed. Is it right? No. But it is what is.
It probably wouldn’t be hard to find a jury of his peers that think he should get $40 K a year for 50 years. Do the math.
That is quite a pile-on. You caught me haphazardly reading the article; but, you folks aren’t very observant with the rest of the thread.
She did not shoot a boy trying to break into her car. She shot one gang member after another gang member drew his gun. The rest of the gang fled the scene.
It is called self-defense.
He lived to steal another day.
“She’s probably supposed to ask the perps for their pronouns so she doesn’t misgender them.”
The ultimate crime in today’s society.
“Anyway, once the bad guys brandish a gun, the victim gets a free pass, at least in my book.”
Yeah, it’s pretty hard to argue against taking serious action when someone is waving a gun or a knife or some other lethal weapon at you. Sounds like an immediate threat to one’s life to me. Chicago might screw you over for defending yourself, but the rest of Illinois would probably acquit you, if they charged you at all.

What part of "brandishing a handgun" means she was not at risk?
The birds! Follow the birds! He breaches!
Great book. Great movie.
“Now she’s facing thousands in legal bills at best, jail time at worst.”
Not if she’s BIPOC, and LBGTQRSTUV.
See post #87, Hawkeye.
There was a conservative talk-show host in Seattle years ago that talked about what you wrote. He called it somebody’s “life energy” - so they are taking part of their life by stealing.
“If you happen to draw a hanging judge and a prosecutor with political ambition, and most of them do, you will find that they prosecute and sentence based on whether you could have reasonably and safely avoided the confrontation.”
That’s why there are juries of one’s peers.
That’s a good point. Reminds me of the old days when they would hang a man (or teen) for stealing a horse. Seems harsh to a lot of people today but if you think about it there was no welfare then. Stealing a horse might mean no way to go get supplies for your family, fetch a Doctor, hunt or plow your field for crops. It could mean death for the family at worst or hardship and change of life at best.
The older I get the more I think the clause cruel and unusual punishment should not have been added. Seems to have given the left a starting point to weaken the penal system. Or maybe they would be doing the same thing anyway.
LOL by the way noticed your moniker. I’m a Hoosier and the only time in my life I ever donated political contributions to out of state (besides POTUS) was in the Georgia election. BOTH the senators I supported were beaten by utter leftists giving the balance of power to the radical left in this country. I was actually more dismayed and surprised than by Trump losing and that was a bitter pill to swallow.
never, ever again will I send money to another state.
“Story said one of the BGs pulled a gun on her. She was in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury. Good shoot.
I agree. Also, she was seriously outnumbered.
“One of them pointed a gun at her, but, still, it is Illinois.”
Chicago. In most of the rest of the state she walks, if she’s even charged. Don’t judge Illinois by Chicago and Cook County.
