The female Tour de France fell into chaos on Thursday as a mega-pileup swallowed dozens of riders just 45 kilometers from the finish line. Several of the riders sustained injuries and one was rushed to the hospital.
Thursday was the fifth stage of the very first female Tour de France. This stage included a 175-kilometer trip from Bar-Le-Duc to Saint-Die-Des-Vosges. This stage was seen as a sprint before the challenging Vosges mountain range on Friday.
With 130 kilometers out of the way, riders began to quicken their pace with an open straight up ahead. It was here that the pack tightened up, almost brushing handle bars.
It took one rider to go down to take a majority of the pack with her and those behind soon crashed into the back of the pile. Eventually the road was fully blocked as medics raced to the scene.

Oh, you’re no fun anymore.
I was going to find a pithy way to make a sexist joke out of it, but...you beat me to it!
Female drivers.
When I heard the site of Biden’s mishap had been tagged as “Brandon Falls”, I thought that was simply hilarious!
Women drivers. Sheesh.
“Bikes have transmissions?”
Most of the TdF bikes have a 22-speed (2x11), electrically shifted derailleur system (Transmision) Though some might be riding a single front chainwheel with 11 sprockets in back
I know...people can get badly hurt, dreams shattered and all that. And I hope nobody was.
But the material was just too much like catnip for a cat...
It looks like France still has a definition for “female,” and it’s not “anyone who identifies as a woman.”
I’ve heard the area of Brandon Falls has a serious problem now with potential accidents as people are taking selfies there laying in the middle of the road, WITHOUT having the SecServ there to block traffic.
How many of them were blondes ?
Things like this will continue to happen until the transtesticles fully take over women’s sports.
That’s a big pile of bikes.
It could never happen to me. I stay out of crowds of all types for numerous reasons.
While I wasn’t aware of the “electrically shifted derailleur system”, the fact that no manufacturer calls them a “transmission”, leaves my joke perfectly in tact.
Looked like dudes to me!
I’ve seen massive pile ups in Tour due France, some resulting in death.. Why should the women’s race be any different
on a straight section of road - wow
In the next few days, you’ll read about some of the participants saying “This minor mishap will not define us!!”
