Children really are the best contraception
Medical Xpress / Flinders University / The Journal of Sex Research ^ | July 26, 2032 | Michal Kahn et al

Parenting a young infant can be exhausting, and potentially deplete parents' cognitive and emotional resources, but can it also intrude on parents' sex life?

A new study reveals it is not the baby's disrupted sleep patterns—common in the first months of life—but rather engaging with the baby during crib-side visits which is the biggest disincentive to parents' sexual frequency.

Parents who engaged with their infant 0–0.5 times per night on average, reported having partnered sexual activity 4.2 times per month, whereas parents who engaged with their infant over 4 times per night had sex 50% less often (only 2.3 times per month).

"These findings suggest that it is not infant or parent sleep disruption per se, but rather parent nighttime engagement with the infant that is associated with lower parent sexual activity frequency," says researcher Dr. Michal Kahn.

The link between parental night-time engagement with the infant and lower sexual activity frequency was significant regardless of infant age.

"While young infants require lots of external regulation to fall asleep, most infants can gradually learn to regulate themselves to sleep across the second half of the first year. As sexual and sleep health both have a major impact on well-being, parents wishing to restore their sleep and sexual activity can gradually encourage more independent infant sleep," notes Dr. Kahn.

By contrast, sexual satisfaction was not associated with parent night-time caregiving, parent or infant sleep, or parent-infant sleeping arrangements in adjusted models, suggesting that satisfaction ratings may not be susceptible to the effects of disrupted sleep in the postpartum period.

The results also indicated that the frequency of partnered sexual activity in the first 18 months was 3.8 ± 4.2 times per month. Frequency of sexual activity increased with infant age, yet increases beyond the first six months postpartum were non-significant.

This makes some sense, but it seems strange to directly encourage less involvement with a child, yet, you could just view it as encouraging independence, too.

I wonder how this dovetails with God’s plan of two parents (male and female since each have different biological differences) raising an infant together affects the rate of reproduction.

Hmmmmmmm.

Sounds like another reason for democrats to encourage post-birth abortions.

Dealing with squalling babies makes you too tired for sex? They needed a study for this?

Too funny. One of the young ladies at my church seems to be having her babies nine months and fifteen minutes apart.

I’ve told my two sons many times, that they should thank their older sister for being such a great baby. If she wasn’t, they’d never been created.

As near as I can figure out, by design, women care for babies and toddlers to nurture them and make them feel secure. Men take over much of the child care when the child becomes old enough to separate from the mother and they become Daddy’s little helper.

This article is a hot mess of stupid. They are basically describing two different parenting styles.

One style encourages independent infant sleep by not jumping out of bed at every burble of the baby monitor and the other is standard helicopter parenting.

Helicopter parents have less opportunity for marital relations for obvious reasons.

SNORT! You’ve got to be kidding me! They try kid #2 and #3 and #4. I’m very surprised any woman had 10 or 12 kids!

By the time the blue hair and a nose ring appears, you can’t give them back.

I had a design company named “First Impressions” come to our house a few months back for a consultation. The owner was going to come, but she couldn’t make it, so she sent her assistant. I was unaware of the change.

This kid showed up at our door with ear plugs about the size of donuts and earlobes down to his shoulders. I opened the door and before he could say a word, I said “I don’t want any!” Then I snarled “Why the HELL do you have giant holes in your ears”” and slammed the door. The kid was stunned, turned around, walked away, and made a phone call. A minute later I got a call from the owner and she explained it was her assistant. I told her he could come back, but she said “No, he doesn’t want to.”

I told the owner that, for a company named “First Impressions,” they don’t leave a good one.

There's a reason why Dennis (of "Dennis the Menace") and Calvin (of "Calvin and Hobbes") are only children.

".. reported having partnered sexual activity 4.2 times per month.."

Ok. I can't tell ya why. Mebbe I'm having a Beavis-n-Butthead moment or just plain ol ignorance.. But this phrasing struck me as funny.

"Partnered sexual activity".

How about "disciplining the primate"? Was that curtailed as well?
Are parents the "Master of their Domain"? ***SNORT*** d:^D
