The Kyler Murray contract has become official. And it officially contains a term that one source with extensive knowledge of player contracts has deemed to be unprecedented.
The deal requires that Murray engage in at least four hours of “Independent Study” during each week of the season, from the Monday after training camp ends through the last game on the schedule, including any postseason games.
Murray’s $46.1 million annual average earnings will be 2nd highest in the NFL to Aaron Rodgers. It’s also close to the Oakland A’s (MLB) entire 2022 opening day payroll of $47.7 million. Murray was the Oakland A’s 2018 1st round draft pick and 9th overall pick in the draft.
At least according to NFL.com, he has to put in 4 hours a week watching himself play to look for avoidable errors and mistakes and try to improve.

It sounds like the Cardinals are trying to develop the old-time work ethic, where players would on their own want to improve to be the best they can be.
They want to get away from players who want their $10 million contracts, but don’t want to practice and improve.
That he is Johnny “Football” Manziel the second but is an actual NFL QB?
It means he’s illiterate and they want him to go to school
This is sportsball, right?
1) He’s lazy.
2) Does his own thing and doesn’t care what anyone thinks.
3) Guaranteed money is not guaranteed. The team has an out just in case the team find out #1 and 2 are facts. If the team starts losing they don’t need a $250 million albatross hanging over them. He’ll have to fake it if #2 comes to pass.
*Players who want their $10 million contracts, but don’t want to practice and improve.* there’s a term for that-shiftless.
That was supposedly on of Tom Brady’s great strengths - he studied like crazy. First guy into work every morning and last guy out. Made his offense watch film with him.
I haven’t watched sportsball for years, but I do remember that no matter who the Cardinals put on the field, the Cardinal organization will prevent their success. Bidwell isn’t interested in a championship, never has been.
He’s gone full retard and likes keepin’ it real.
Means he is a lazy a-hole who thinks he is so good he doesn’t need to put in the work.
At $46 million/year I feel sorry for Murray not having white privilege.
Michael Vick. 2 years out of the league over animal cruelty. QB’s are expected to be the dependable ones. Show up early-stay late.
Hall of Fame’r Steve Young was a similar player. Left handed and ran like a deer. He offered to help Vick when he came into the league. Vick declined the offer. Probably thought he was too good to need it. Vick never won anything. Murray’s going down the same path. I would have never offered him the money after he took himself out of a losing game at the end of the season. Going down with the ship is not in his DNA.
Exactly, they’re just attempting to avoid a Trubisky type of situation.
There’s a word for that-it is called projection. Seeing Drew Brees in the hard working, intelligent Mitch Trubisky is projection.
20 on the wonderlic 🥴
The Jamarcus Russell rule LOL.
20? Does that mean he failed to even spell his own name correctly?
I guess as long as he can sign his checks and the bank accepts them, not much else matters.
“You goin to play fooosball?”
Foosball is the devil.
The attempt to raise his IQ above 50 will prove to be futile...
