COLUMBIA, Md. — A 12-year-old girl died early Sunday morning after crashing a car, Howard County police said.
County police said the car struck a tree around 2 a.m. Sunday on Broken Land Parkway near Cradlerock Way in the Columbia area.
Investigations said a 36-year-old man in the car with the driver was taken to Shock Trauma with serious injuries.
Police say they're still investigating why the 12-year-old girl was driving.
My guess is that the man was drunk and the girl was the designated driver. Who knows where they were coming from
Parental FOOLISHNESS!!
That was my thought. 2:00am? Dad probably called home and told her to come get him from the bar.
Possibly Mexico
Bingo
I recall by repute that Columbia, MD, used to be quite the Yuppie enclave once upon a time.
Have the demographics changed?
maybe she was needed to blow into a breathalyzer attached to the car?
sick individual.
I can remember going to Columbia for high school field trips - late 60’s -
to see the future of planned development - it hasn’t aged well.
The man might be in trouble. Was he her father or her boyfriend? If he was teaching her to drive, maybe better to do that in daylight.
Reminds me of a situation that happened to my daughter when she was an EMT. The fire station was contacted during a snow storm; there was a bad accident on the highway. She and her EMT partner drove out to the site. The driver was drunk as a skunk. The windshield was broken, and they kept asking the guy if there was anyone else in the car. He said no.
Then my daughter heard a child crying out in the storm. She went to the sound and found a little 8-year old girl. She had been ejected from the car. Both legs broken. She got the gurney and brought the girl to the ambulance. She was so angry at the drunk driver, it was all her partner could do to keep her off of the guy. She wanted to kill him; thank God she heard the little girl crying in the storm.
Like any city there is both good and bad.
Busy intersection / roads there too. Terrible.
A bit. I’m just around the corner from there. It’s built up more. It’s between dc & Baltimore. But, still is a visually nice area due to all of the regulations.
Townes Van Zandt: Desperados Waiting For A Train
“He taught me how to drive his car when he’s to drunk to
He’d laugh and give me money for the girls
We’s like desperados waiting for a train”
Seriously, prayers to the family.
I live here. Its still suburbia.
Sorry, Desperados Waiting For A Train was Guy Clark’s song.
Family member had house, with pool in Allview Estates. Did lots of renovations and sold it for good profit.
County police said the car struck a tree around 2:08 a.m. Sunday on Broken Land Parkway near Cradlerock Way in the Columbia area.
The driver, Josseline Molina-Rivas, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 36-year-old male passenger was taken to Shock Trauma, where he remains in serious condition, police said. Two two are not related and it was unknown why they were out in the car at 2 a.m. or why the girl was driving.
Police said investigators tracked down the registered owner of the car and determined that both the driver and passenger lived in the same apartment with numerous family members and residents.
Police said they believe speed was a factor in the crash. They are also investigating whether either occupant was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
