Patients with Meniere disease (MD) have a greater risk for migraine occurrence, according to a study recently published in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
So Young Kim, M.D., Ph.D., from CHA University in Seongnam, South Korea, and colleagues used the Korean National Health Insurance Service Health Screening Cohort (2002 to 2015) to identify 6,919 patients with Meniere disease and 27,676 matched controls. The incidence of migraine was compared between the groups.
The researchers found that the Meniere disease group had a 2.22-fold higher risk for migraine versus the control group. Meniere disease was present in 1,098 of 35,889 patients with migraine and in 781 of 71,778 matched control participants. Among individuals with migraine, 3.1 percent had Meniere disease compared with 1.1 percent of individuals in the control group, yielding a 1.95-fold higher risk for Meniere disease in the migraine group than the matched control group.
"In this case-control study of a nationally representative cohort of Korean adults, Meniere disease and migraine had bidirectional associations. Patients with Meniere disease showed a higher occurrence of migraine and vice versa," the authors write. "The diagnosis of migraine should be considered when patients with Meniere disease experience headache. Thus, the medicines for migraine could be effective in controlling symptoms of Meniere disease."

The role of free radicals and plasmatic antioxidant in Ménière’s syndrome

Key within that is the following:
“The presence of this lack of balance, verified by suitable tests, has shown the rationality of use of a product made from reduced glutathione, thioctic acid, cysteine, and other antioxidants as a multipurpose antidote to this element of etiopathogenesis. Patients were divided into three groups (control, conventional therapy, and antioxidant treatment), and those in the antioxidant treatment group, especially those with Ménière’s syndrome, demonstrated a net and more significant improvement.”
I have posted a couple studies on GlyNAC, which is equal amounts of glycine and N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), which together allow our bodies to make out natural glutathione antioxidant in exactly the place needed within every cell. This study hit one one the creation products, then hit on a glutathione supplement, but the studies show GlyNAC is what actually creates large amounts of the glutathione we once made as kids.
GlyNAC improves multiple defects in aging to boost strength and cognition in older humans (Some defects “reversed to the levels found in young adults” - eGFR up 15%, IL-6 down 77%, TNFa down 40%, Fasting Insulin down 55%, etc.)

Hello Conservative Mind, I have tried antibiotics and the GlyNAC. I have done antivirals and all kind of other treatments including homeopathic treatments, all with good results for a few weeks. I can’t even name them all :). The labyrinthectomy and CI is my last resort. funny enough, I’m looking forward to getting it done. I have read on the meniere’s forums that a lot of people have very good results with some of the alternative treatments. Especially the antivirals as some new theories are that it is caused by a herpes virus. I had cold sores as a kid so I have often wondered if there is a connection. I haven’t had them as an adult though.

It appears to help our bodies make another key cellular antioxidant, SOD, which we need a lot of, similar to glutathione.
Our inner ear needs a lot of it:

Also, on the GlyNAC, the amount Nestle (now owns the patent for its Celltrient Strength product) says to take each day is 1,200 mg of glycine together with 1,200 mg of NAC, but the study on 70-80 year olds around six times that amount.
Thank you again for so much information. I wanted to post to this again because I hope anyone else suffering from Meniere’s may see it and look into your good information. I would also recommend seeing an otologist/neurotologist as there is only so much an ENT can do. A lot of them are very open to supplements and other alternative treatments before jumping right into surgery.
