Newsom and Harris court Democrats and donors as one-and-done Biden speculation builds

Prominent elected Democrats are meeting with political donors, courting national attention by attacking leading Republicans and positioning themselves for a run for the White House if President Joe Biden steps aside.

Most visible has been California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has taken a match to his party, accusing Democrats of inaction in the lead-up to the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade.

“Where the hell is my party?” Newsom asked in May after a leaked draft opinion indicated that the Supreme Court was preparing to overturn the 1973 precedent finding a constitutional right to abortion. The blue state governor later said the charge was “not an individual gripe with anybody,” but Democrats had failed “to capture the narrative, to capture the imagination of the American people.”

“What is going on in the Democratic Party nationwide? I cannot answer that question,” the governor said during an interview with Fox LA in June.

Newsom was again scoring national attention when, weeks later, he was on air in Florida asking Fox News viewers to consider “what’s going on in America.” The state is led by Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is up for reelection this fall and is considered a Republican presidential possibility in 2024.

If Biden steps aside, Harris would likely face challengers to the nomination, perhaps more than a dozen. Earlier this month, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) predicted “a 20-person field” during an interview with reporter Tara Palmeri. “It will be a very contested election,” Khanna said. Khanna, another potential Democratic prospect, brushed off the speculation.

It’ll be a free for all because everybody knows Kamala is not capable, besides being ineligible.

I’m sure the game is to stretch Joe as long as they can to minimize President Kamala’s time/damage, but once Joe is out, force her to nominate Newsome as VP. If they were smart (?) they’d do this before losing the majority as even the quisling R’s would not consent. That sets them up for 2024 with Newsome having the VP incumbent advantage and Kamala would be eliminated by natural selection just like she was in 2020.

If the Republicans can’t capitalize on the disaster that is California to beat Newsom, they’re useless…

They’re not going to run 2 candidates on a ticket from the same state. Even Democrats will need to put someone from a large swing state on the ticket.

That would create a 12th Amendment problem.

There is a problem with this logic, like if Biden is smart, the sun rises in the east. The sun rises in the east, regardless of Biden suffering from dimentia.

The problem is that the Republicans are useless. Maybe they will be able to capitalize on the California disaster. They are still useless. As the day is long.

Trump should beat Newsome hands down and make him look like something that drowned in the Rio Grande. DeSantis even more so. Kamala will do it to herself.

The Republicans are still worthless as cow farts.

There is no reason as yet to think Biden will not run again. So any of these potential candidates will have to think he can take down a sitting president of his own party. It has happened before, with LBJ, but this is not 1968.

The Electoral College no longer operates the way it did when the 12th was ratified. Electors no longer cast a vote for the VP, who was simply the runner-up. There were no “tickets”. There is no prohibition one the VP being from the same state.

However, the 12th Amendment does say that electors may not vote for a President from their state and a Vice President also from their state.

Right, it applies to the Electors. Not the ticket.

The DNC can pull Biden out of the game any time they want to, all they have to is make his actual medical records public. They don’t do it as long as he’s capable of being the useful idiot because bit will be divisive and they know Kamala will be even worse. People will cut an obviously senile old man some slack but what is her excuse for being a scatterbrained fool going to be? And the longer she serves as Pontus the more difficult it will be to keep her from becoming the presumptive nominee. Their best be this to keep old Joe doped up and more-or-less alive.
