They are wonderful, loyal, loving dogs right up until the moment they maul or kill. Then they are right back to their old self. It's like a switch flips.

I seem to remember not too long ago when a former Freeper named “Chet” or something similar was constantly brought up as being an anti-pitbull person and ridiculed. That seems to have changed over the last several years now that people have noticed how dangerous these dogs truly are.

As they teach in every service academy and military war college, never focus on the intent. Focus on the CAPABILITIES.
Intents can change overnight, but capabilities are innate characteristics that are not subsequent to sudden or extreme changes.

Pitt Bull owners are an interesting group. Every time something like this happens their immediate response as a group (certainly with exceptions) is to condemn the victim. They must have done something to enrage a dog of such a sweet natured, gentle breed. These are dogs they don't even know, but they are sure it was the victims fault.

I’m going to be contrarian and say it IS really rare for a pit or pit mix to attack the owner or close family member.
Usually what happens is a neighborhood kid gets it.
Pits and pit mixes are 5% of the dog population but account for more than 50% of human deaths
