A Rochester Police officer is on desk duty following an altercation with an EMT at a hospital’s emergency department, according to published reports.
The incident happened Monday at Strong Memorial Hospital when the police officer’s car was hit by the EMT while unloading a patient in the ambulance bay. The officer wanted to get the EMTs identification, but the EMT wanted to bring the patient inside the hospital first.
While the EMT was at the check-in desk, she was handcuffed and forcefully taken outside to a police car.
The EMT was later released from custody. She was not charged or ticketed.
Monroe Ambulance issued the following statement:
“At Monroe Ambulance, the safety of our crew and our patients are of the upmost importance. While the incident is still under internal investigation, our review of the video footage of the event indicates the safety of both our employee and that of her patient were jeopardized by the action of the officer. Our employee demonstrated sound decision making by prioritizing the care of her patient and it is the expectation of all our care providers to do the same. Furthermore, we do not believe the behavior of the officer aligns with the values of RPD leadership and should in no way condemn the rest of the brave brothers and sisters in blue. We are eager to learn of the outcome of RPD’s official investigation.”
Rochester Police Chief David Smith released a statement, which read in part:
“Chief Smith was notified of the incident and immediately directed an internal investigation by the Professional Standards Section. Pending the internal investigation, the member involved has been placed on administrative assignment. We ask for patience as we ensure that a thorough and complete investigation is completed.”
Scumbag cop should have learned from SLC PD when they handcuffed that nurse in the ER and made her wait cuffed in the back a patrol car.
Don’t F with medical personal.
“There was nothing here that happened that couldn’t wait a half hour to attend to.”
Not as if an elementary school was being shot up or anything. That’s good for an hour or more of waiting.
If an EMT or a paramedic has a patient being moved, the cops needs can wait. I may have misread it but what was he doing parking in an ambulance bay anyway?
> At least he didn’t shoot the EMT.
Nah, he’s going to find out where he lives and then shoot his dog.
Too many decades of the “Us against Them” mentality has led to today’s unbridled arrogance of LEOs as well as the citizenry’s lack of respect for them.
The rubberband can only be stretched so far before it either snaps back or is broken forever.
You will obey! And bow.
A lot of cops (I would guess at least half) think they are some type of Praetorian Guard or nobility, answerable only to Emperor Caesar.
In this case, the cop is in the wrong. He was not in a battle zone or crime scene where thugs are shooting their weapons. The cop was in NO DANGER! He blew a fuse for no other reason than he is lord and master of the highways and a peon EMT dissed him.
The cop will be fine. One of the many buckets of whitewash that the PD keeps for all occasions of police misbehavior will be hauled out and liberally applied.

Must have went to the same police academy as those Uvalde cops did.
There should be a bad cop registry so aholes like this guy cant simply move to another department.

Just what hit the officer’s car?
The EMT herself?
With her hand, fist, or butt?
A gurney with a patient?
An ambulance?
And he is big and white (steroids) and she is black and about 1/2 his size.
And he is in slacks and a polo?
But he sure could push her around and drag her out.
A comment in the video in post 29 says the cruiser was bumped with an ambulance door. Why was he so close that a door could hit the cruiser? Was he parked in the ambulance emergency spot?
following an altercation
= = =
no, not an altercation
it was a one-sided bullying.
In a just World he would be fired. But anyone who believes anything will be done to the Officer, other than being promoted, is fooling themselves. The EMT is lucky she wasn’t shot.
Thanks -
Well, as we see, he did have an emergency - that EMT wouldn’t submit and hold still.
The LEO CUFFED, put in wrist restraints, an EMT at an Emergency room entrance. You missed the point entirely. A fellow citizen was brutalized by a bully, and you are fine with that? Shame! HOW would you feel the same if a car came to your office and CUFFED you in front of everybody? The LEO should be let go as a bad example to the rest of the BLUE LINE gang members.
Great observation 👍
Big suit payday coming for her...
