They are just as valid as anyone else's here.

I don't use their products because I am an IT professional. I know what they do, and (basically) how they do it. I've been following MS since they were created, and I was using Windows products up through the mid 90's.

I have experience on both sides. You are free (of course) to ignore my comments/opinions. You can disagree with them. But they are not irrelevant.

NO. I neither use their web function nor their office suite.

Libre office and Nextcloud are sufficient for me in that respect.

Unless you need to get serious work done (CAD, engineering, simulation, etc). You’re not doing that on your phone.

"I LOVE my PC, with its full sized, clicky keyboard, 42" screen 32GB RAM, 2x1 TB .m2 SSD, 3.8Ghz i7-9700, 5 unused slots, Built-In Blu-Ray and a boatload of software for it to run in both Windows and Linux." Fairly expensive set up (I use a Ryzen 32300G which is comparable but was much cheaper, while Ryzen 5 5600G 3.9 GHz 6-Core Processor is only $153.00) but for most everything except camera use, portability, texting and calls, IMO a desktop is far better than some mobile device, from word processing, to forums to research to email. You can build your own

Wake me when Windows 11’s kernel is open source.

"PCs are to 1990s."

Rather, both mobile devices and desktops have their uses and strengths, depending on what you use them for. A mobile device is simply not fit for my uses, from from word processing, to forums to extensive research and shopping to email to sometimes good movies when tired (not many out there). With two word processors and 7 browsers, each for a general specific use, and hundreds of open tabs. And 64GB RAM, thank God.

> Wake me when Windows 11’s kernel is open source.

You'll have to wait until Windows drops the NT kernel and adopts either the Linux or BSD kernel.

Don't laugh, it's been rumored for a couple years that MS will eventually admit that the proprietary NT kernel has run its course and is no longer maintainable, and will shift over to an open-source kernel. Whether they go to Linux, or BSD as Apple did, or even something else ... who knows.

“Sure, Microsoft isn’t perfect. For example, there are serious legal and ethical questions about how its subsidiary GitHub is using open source code in its commercialized Copilot AI-based pair-programming service, and it has made some missteps as with .NET Foundation late last year”.

There was an article on XDA forums the other day that github users should remove their code and abandon the platform. Microsoft is profitting from their AI programming servics using Free Open Source Software (FOSS) housed at github. Lots of projects at github are already gone and more to follow.

Yes he does.
Then it’s evil.

Should be good for a few pithy comments. :-)

Sorry, Microsloth is still evil, in every way. They have always been evil. There are numerous examples of them stealing from other companies. Linux is a better operating system in every way these days. It has more hardware compatibility, flexibility, and general usefulness. I wouldn't have it if you paid me.

Something I've noticed over the years is that the most anti-linux/open source folk tend to have no experience with it whatsoever. OTOH, it's almost impossible to not have to deal with microsoft to some degree.

You are right. It is a fairly expensive setup. I buy a desktop PC and run it for 10+ years before upgrading. I like having a full sized tower with slots and available 5.25” and 3.5” bays for capacity and upgrades should they become invented within the ten-year period. I am three years in and for raw capacity my setup ranks in the top 2% (”aircraft carrier”). I didn’t spring for a fancy graphics card as my work/personal use doesn’t require serious gaming (MAME with my son is all I do for that) or 3D modeling/animation.
