When Mystrichrome was fresh and new, it was not an easy paint to get ahold of. If you owned a Mystichrome Cobra and got into an accident that required paint repair, you were in for a nasty surprise. Only certain body shops around the country could spray the paint, and to do so, a Ford representative had to be present. Not only that, but that Ford rep was responsible for bringing the paint, overseeing the work done, then re-sealing the can and bringing the leftover paint back with them.
...In Patterson’s video, he shows the cost of just 16 ounces of Mystichrome paint, which comes in at a whopping $3,335.27. That works out to over $26,600 per gallon. Keep in mind that that price figure is only for the paint...

Some woke car company came out with their own version of a gay pride car which theynwere selling overseas- can’t remember which company now-

“ I just want a car paint that changes color when wet like my old hot wheels!”
You might try to find an old Vega.
“people in the Jeep off road community started coating their entire vehicles in epoxy bed liner”
I got you beat. There used to be a conversion van parked in my old neighborhood completely covered in bright blue all-weather carpeting!
It depends on how much you add...some folks just do the entire exterior and some pull out all the seats and do the entire interior as well. I’ve seen estimates that it adds about 50-60 pounds to the curb weight.
I have body parts powder coated and that’s all I care to do.
That stuff is death to shoot, but durable. Imron will screw up your lungs for good if you skip the PPE…
I’d do that if I have a beater car.
“It’d be cheaper to spray your car with inkjet printer ink.”
How do you figure that?
How do you figure that?
I figured it to be hyperbole consistent with my tagline.
One of my coworkers did his whole pickup in black spray-on bedliner. No worries about scratches after that.
There was a mustang that color in a body shop that color getting fixed. The jobber that mixed the paint said it was a pain in the ass to mix the paint.
The shop had to know exactly how much of the base coat needed to cover the area to be painted. When they got the green tint it came from the US Treasury Department and the Agent was there when they mixed it. Any left over tint was taken back with him! I heard the paint was an absolute Bitch to match!
Sounds painful.

My ‘58 VW bus was kept rust free by a top to bottom coat of roofing patch thinned with gasoline. Took two weeks to dry, but was indestructible and very zero maintenance. Stealth bus.
My late Dad was a wiseacre and when asked what color he preferred, he would say: “Sky blue pink with yellow checker dots”. Although every new car he bought was red.
My grnadfather had an old Desoto which got a fender bender acident. He got a replacement fender from the junkyard and used a bursh to paint the whole car a deep purple. Interesting texture on that old car.
That bed liner coating over the entire Jeep (Post 20) is awesome. Jeeps in particular are prone to rust but that should help. I would also try to fill the inside of the windshield frame with foam or sealant as water gets in the screw holes.
Still pictures can't convey the unique quality of this paint job so here's a short video of a walk-around.
I always thought a car done entirely in chrome would be cool - but would be hell to see over the hood in bright sunshine.
