When Mystrichrome was fresh and new, it was not an easy paint to get ahold of. If you owned a Mystichrome Cobra and got into an accident that required paint repair, you were in for a nasty surprise. Only certain body shops around the country could spray the paint, and to do so, a Ford representative had to be present. Not only that, but that Ford rep was responsible for bringing the paint, overseeing the work done, then re-sealing the can and bringing the leftover paint back with them.
...In Patterson’s video, he shows the cost of just 16 ounces of Mystichrome paint, which comes in at a whopping $3,335.27. That works out to over $26,600 per gallon. Keep in mind that that price figure is only for the paint...

There was a guy around Raleigh who covered a Geo Metro with pennies. probably doubled the value.
That’s kinda like the texture of the paint on my son’s pickup...
Lee Iacocca would not be amused.
Earl Scheib would still find a way to maximize profits and give the crappiest paint job ever.

I had a business partner with that paint job, more than a few years back. It was a brand-new thing, then, and she was proud of it.
It looked very different, but I did not understand just how expensive the color was.
A bodyman friend enjoyed radical painting and I let him do my bike fairings; anything he wanted to try.
He did it in something called “flip-flop”. I suspect it is similar to this product?
The bike was recognizable at a glance.
Years after I sold it friends would report sightings...
Years ago my relative (a young lady) bought a new car that had a “chameleon” paint color.
She didn’t have it very long before she drove it to downtown St. Louis and was carjacked at gunpoint.
She never got it back. It was found stripped, in pieces, over on the east side.
Remember “mood” rings? Imagine a car like that, lol 😉

There are paints (or wraps) that do that.
Me, I would just use straight red.
Listener : “Do you know where I can get a gas cap for a Yugo?”
Hosts : “Sounds like a good trade to me.”

DuPont Imron on the entire car?
My bodyman buddy used to do frames/ undercarriage for exotic cars. Only late at night with certain atmospheric conditions and suited up to the full monty. Some bad shite!
IIRC he did some aircraft? Not in his shop.
I read this two thirds of a lifetime ago.
Gay pride paint?
ANY CAR ANY COLOR!!!
NO UPS NO EXTRAS!!!
I always heard that if you prepped the car your self and gave a small gratuity up front... an OK cheap job.
And some of my buds had the cars to prove it.
I saw one of those just other day too here in Texas. Never saw a car like that before. Copper Challenger. The wife and I were both impressed. Beautiful car.
That really looks cool. For a jeep.
Meh. It’s a purple Cobra with 390HP. Kind of ugly, IMO.
How much weight does that add?
Had a 1970 Mustang with bright metallic blue. It was stolen in Detroit, as it had no rust.
