A teacher at Robb Elementary who was injured in the mass shooting says he hasn't spoken to his cousin, Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo, since the shooting.
On May 24, a gunman killed 19 students and 2 teachers in Uvalde, Texas. Eleven of those students were in Arnulfo Reyes' 4th grade classroom. During the tragedy, Reyes was first shot in the arm. He played dead for an hour until the gunman shot him again in the back.
Speaking with NPR, Reyes said his classroom's doorknob had been broken for at least two years. He said he can't understand why his cousin claimed to have been searching for keys when Reyes' door was unlocked.
"I wish that he would have said, 'I'm going to go in there because that's my family.' But he didn't," Reyes said.

That’s going to make Thanksgiving and Christmas awkward at grandma’s house
Why was the door knob never replaced/repaired?
There was more at play here than simply incompetence and cowardice.
“A teacher at Robb Elementary who was injured in the mass shooting says he hasn’t spoken to his cousin, Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo, since the shooting.”
I can imagine the police chief saying something like this —
Arredondo — “I didn’t visit my cousin in the hospital because this is an ongoing investigation ... (voice trails off) ... “
Some sort of nonsense. My guess is the real reason he didn’t visit his injured cousin in the hospital is that he was scared he would be asked questions by the press.
Uvalde is a very small town. For Arrendondo to not visit his injured cousin in the hospital after an incident like this is incredible to me.
It was probably on some list to be repaired that summer - along with hundreds of other items.
Very interesting......
Better damned well believe it.
Sure. But, my Lord, people are talking about setting up swat teams and squads of guards, and million dollar security systems and outlawing all guns, but then, when push comes to shove, one little measly malfunctioning knob isn't even maintained, and it didn't even matter.
SMH
And the 2 men in black who stood outside and watched the guy go inside after 12 minutes of him shooting outside were….lawn jockeys
Then again, the man who actually shot the guy was outside of the chain of command there.
Apparently he didnt even call the injured cousin ...
Well it is a gubment school. You know gubment. The one majestic thing held up as a savior for the myriad of woes inflicted upon humanity. But gubment schools can’t fix a door know. But gubment can bring us death dealing vaccines, send our young men to war in 1818 for no particular reason. Get us slaughtered in Korea and Vietnam. Create not one but two Iraq crisis situations. Do the polio blankets expose soldiers to nuclear blast testing use psychedelics as experimental subjects on citizens... etc. So no. Can’t fix a damn doorknob.
If my kid had been killed or injured in this incident I’d have already burned this joke of a “chiefs” home down with him nailed to the floor inside.
Then turned myself in and demanded a jury trial.

To bolster a school tax bond for ‘school repair.’
Could you expand on that, please. What is the “more”?
I think we are correct in assuming that there is a certain level of confidence involved as well as cowardice. However somewhere in the chain of command including perhaps higher up than the police I think there were probably political i.e. how can we take advantage of this situation?
Strictly my opinion but considering the way the Democrats leap on these after they happen I’ve got to believe that they also try to manipulate them while they’re happening.
It is pretty obvious that Democrats relish the thought of mass shootings. I imagine at certain levels they sit behind closed doors and hope for them.
I agree.
