The work is being conducted by scientists from the Animal Welfare Epidemiology Lab at the University of California Davis. Last fall, the team recruited volunteers who owned exactly two cats to look at cat videos on the internet, as part of a project to study how well owners could read feline body language

I love cats. I think that is because they taste a lot like chicken.

**BTW, when I know, I don’t even go inside a cat owners house. I have dogs but they live outside!!**

Back about the summer of 63 or 64, when the vast majority of midwest farm operations were still both grain and livestock, and neighbors helped each other with hay and straw baling, often eating lunch at the host farmhouse, I remember totally losing my appetite at one of those farms. I was about 9 or 10 yrs old, squeezed in at a kitchen table, see a cat lying on top of the fridge, one on the countertop, and one under the table occasionally brushing against my leg. There was a couple lying on furniture in the next room. The place smelled bad. The smell was strong enough to interfere with smelling the food.

I married a city girl in 78, whose family had a couple of dogs. When we were dating, before I had ever thought to ask her about her feelings of pets in the house, she said, “I really hope that whoever I marry doesn’t want to have dogs or cats in the house.” I had already felt that I liked everything about this chick, and that just added to her attraction.

In all my yrs we have never had cats or dogs living in the house. They were assets to the farm, but we quit farming in 01, and have lived on small acreages since. We love the freedom of not having to fret about pets.

We have a stray and a rescue cat. They promised to rewire the house, clean baseboards and paint the rooms as needed, we’re still waiting after seven years for them to fulfill their promises lol!

The stray is a calico who loves to eat, my grandson whose four calls her Miss Pigglesworth. Her real name is Abigail and she’s will attack any bug she finds in the house.

The rescue is a male Maine coon who is cross eyed and has had a broken front paw at some point. He walks like a cat version of John Wayne. He’s my shadow, I can whistle and call him like a dog and he comes running with his weird gait.

My wife has two German Shepard’s and they try to intimidate the cats until one of them let’s out a growl and cocks a paw then it’s scooby time for prancing and running to get away from the beat down that’s coming from the cat.

I never had cats as a child. I had dogs.

As an adult I got a kitten. Since I never had a kitten before I did not know that that cats were supposed to be aloof, withdrawn, cold, distant and all the rest. So I treated the kitten like a puppy. Lots of play time, training and so forth.

I have had any number of cats since then and they have all been social, loving, playful and very talkative.

Obedient?

Well.... I never could get a dog to behave all the time either.

But mostly they follow the rules of the house.

I run a cat sitting and behavior business for the last 12 years . Best biz ever! And yes, I have made a comfortable living at it.

I for one welcome my feline overlords!

I’m also fluent in feline, both spoken and body language.

I also speak Cat fluently, although the dialect I speak is Siamese. As a result, the orange tabby/calico that adopted us had trouble understanding me because I didn’t speak either Tabby or Calico.

My old boss had two German shepherds that always kept the cat’s litter box clean. Sometimes the stuff wouldn’t even get to hit the litter.

She would play kissy face with thlose two pooper scoopers and they would slobber all over her. Yuck.

Wife and I are both animal lovers, not the animal rights type but the good shepherd type. They are members of the family to us.

Yea, if you brush them it won’t happen, but even then, they got hairball food for that these days...

Yep, dogs are ex strippers... show a little attention and never rid of them.

Cats are more choosy. With a good cat it is a mutual understanding. They hunt for and protect you and you tolerate them and sometimes give them praise. Overdo it with a cat and they own you.

Dogs are just like the stripper retreads... buy it a purse... LOL
