Two strays moved in on me and it suits me fine, I feed them on the porch where they hang out by the front door and in return they spend their time killing every desert creature they can find, anything that moves is fun for cats, Rattlers, scorpions, centipedes, gophers, field mice.

Snakes don’t like their smell and cats will deter them, harass them if they are too big to kill, will kill everything that attracts snakes in the first place and generally make an environment that snakes want to avoid, not to mention that cats also like to sleep in the cool nooks and crannies that a snake would be attracted to.

The annoying thing is how affectionate they have become and bothersome as I move around the yard, but I really don’t like snakes and I haven’t seen the before listed various pests in ages, my area has become rather sterile in terms of desert pests.

You tax money made this possible.

And it would play on the climbing tree you bought it, not in the box the tree came in.

Cats are cats... they adopted you as the school bus window licking cat and feel sorry for you since you do not kill these pests yourself. In their little cat minds they are your protectors. As I said, cats are cats... there is a reason the Egyptians honored them. Dogs naturally form a pack but cats choose their pack.

We were owned by eight at one time. Now only three.

One of the strays moved on me like Mae West, he just suddenly decided he was my pet and that was it, the other more feral stray I chased off for 2 years and she acted feral, but then one day she moved on me like a house cat, suddenly leg rubbing, meowing, even ‘pet me’, so what the heck, more cheap dry food.

I really do like them as a snake deterrent on my potting porch/front door area and it pleases me no end when they will look up from their food bowl and leap down to go kill something that I know I probably want killed.

Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

These social scientists have nothing else of importance to do?

I don't give a f*ck.

My calico and I have a good understanding, she crawls up on my wife at night, mews gently once or twice till I lift up the covers so she can lay down between us.

"In short: a well-socialized kitten becomes a well-adjusted adult, and we'd like to do whatever we can to ensure the creation of more well-socialized kittens."

I've seen just the opposite in my 72 years knowing cat people. You can love and socialize a cat and they can still turn out distance, non-caring, distant, and mean.

By contrast, when an abandoned or abused dog is rescued and given care and love, they revert to their natural affinity for humans. As a supporter of the ASPCA, I've seen it time and again. Of course, there are some breeds that can't get pass their abuse and become vicious - most don't.

Dogs are truly our best friends. I've come to love dogs in general more than I do humans. Dogs don't ask much for their love, where humans demand so much.

Did the survey, did not know about socialization training but I’d do it. Buddy ended up with two kittens several months old from the same litter, nearly identical in appearance. Both were well socialized before they were dumped, now two years old, one is extremely social around new people but the other hides and is seldom seen. Quite remarkable.

I found out that bubble wrap also works well for keeping them off the furniture. They hate it!

We have two cats. Charlie doesn’t seem to have the hairball problem, his coat of fur is pretty short. Coco, who is smaller, has longer hair. She is the hairball producer. We don’t usually catch her at that particular moment in time, it’s usually first thing in the morning when we’re walking around in bare feet in the dark. SURPRISE!🙀

That’s sweet. My wife doesn’t like them in the bedroom, but I let them in during the day, and they love sleeping on it. At night, it’s just the two of us. I would gladly let them sleep with us, but it’s no go withe my wife.
In the morning there are two paws reaching under the door…

My cat, a Russian Blue, is strictly an outdoor cat. But, I live in a rural area and she has access to my shop, complete with all the places a cat loves to sleep and play. Pretty much her own 768 square foot castle.

Her rent is free, she just has to keep mice out which she does very well.
