Lovers of hummus and falafel beware: data shows that global supplies of chickpeas, the main ingredient for both dishes, may dip up to 20% this year.

A combination of Russia’s war in Ukraine, poor weather and transportation issues is leading to the shortage, which is predicted to increase prices and make cheap hummus harder to come by, Reuters reported on Thursday.

Farmers in the United States, the fourth-largest chickpea exporter in the world, planted less of the protein-packed legume this year due to less than ideal weather conditions in the spring.

Russia’s war in Ukraine...

The go-to excuse for every problem imaginable. Yer drain's clogged? Well, if Putin hadn't invaded Ukraine, you wouldn't be losing your hair worrying over the war to clog it up!

“May dip”, or may not.

Total world production of chickpeas is 11.6 Million tons. A reduction of 50 tons is a loss of 0.00043%. (It’s equivalent to a person have $16M and spending $50)

so this is to say that the total chick pea production is 5 x 50 tons or a mere 250 tons per year?

I hardly thing so. Wouldn’t it be a whole lot more? 50 tons is seems it would be hardly a fart in a whirlwind.

Then they came for the hummus!!!

Hummus is leftist food. Along with Avocado toast and Starbucks. We could easily starve the left out by eliminating those things.

A world without chickpeas would be like a world without...um...garbanzo beans. Which would be pretty darn awful. For, you know, people who like that sort of thing...

"Ukraine isn't even on the list"

And the countries on the list account for something like 14 million tons, and the article claimed that a reduction of 50 tons in the Ukraine was going to have a dramatic impact on the world's supply.
