After the Supreme Court’s historic decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, some doctors are highlighting the 2012 death of a pregnant woman in Ireland and warning that the same thing could happen on a large scale in the United States.
Dr. Savita Halappanavar, a 31-year-old Indian-born dentist, died in 2012 in Galway, on Ireland’s west coast, after she was denied an abortion by doctors who cited the country’s strict laws, despite there being no chance of her baby’s survival, according to Ireland’s official report on the case.
Her death shook the foundations of the traditionally conservative and predominantly Roman Catholic country, and catalyzed its pro-abortion rights movement. In a 2018 referendum, Irish people voted by a two-thirds majority to legalize the procedure.
The avoidable death of Halappanavar, who was 17 weeks pregnant, proved that doctors — not politicians, police and judges — should help decide the best course of action in similar cases, according to Dr. Sabaratnam Arulkumaran, the expert who in 2013 wrote the official report on the case.
“That’s why Biden said that the issue should be between the patient and the doctor, rather than with the law,” he told NBC News by phone, referring to President Joe Biden’s speech reacting to Roe v. Wade’s reversal June 24.
In Halappanavar’s case, doctors opted against an abortion because the fetus had a heart rate and anyone carrying out a termination could theoretically have been prosecuted at a later date.
“Because the fetal heart rate was present all the time, the obstetrician did not do a termination. If someone decided that she had done it illegally, she would have gone to jail,” he said, referring to the doctor attending on Halappanavar.

How many times have we heard no chance of survival, yet they lived? 9 yrs in hell so far begging for a 2nd chance
Seven paragraphs and not one word saying how not having an abortion at 17 weeks caused her death.
“The incendiary article language obscures the details of the case.”
Yes.
It means they are lying about the cause of her death and attributing it to not having an abortion.
“It sounds to me that the doctors killed her through their own incompetence.”
What details indicate that?
Thanks.
I could tell by the seven paragraph excerpt that it is not an honest article.
Thanks.
The media lie in every single article or report they do.

Good point. They don’t believe their own arguments.
I thought the Irish had more pluck and would have seen through the blarney, but evidently not.
This wasn’t a story about an oppressive abortion law. It was a story about some cases of medical malpractice that the doctors misjudged the severity of the medical complications of specific pregnancies.
There have always been options for the life of the mother; and the one story said that the political authority called by the doctor told the doctor to use his or her own judgment, which apparently was lacking. So they want to blame abortion law because they failed to save a patient.
Agree; she was having a miscarriage, but the hospital handled it badly and denied the dangers of a broken membrane, failed to administer antibiotics right away, and blamed abortion law instead of admitting what would have made them liable for a malpractice suit.
There is a correlation between dental bacteria and heart problems or infection -- patients are always advised to have a thorough dental cleaning before surgery whenever possible. Perhaps this Indian-descended dentist was treating ethnic patients who traveled back and forth out of Ireland, and the bacteria had traveled from her clothing or hands. She said she "pushed a leg back in."
I remember two cases before Roe V Wade.
One in which an American Citizen lived in England and had taken thalidomide for morning sickness.
The US news media played it up like the world was coming to an end if abortion was not legalized in the US. She eventually had an abortion in Sweden.
The second was a photograph of a 12 year old girl, in her third trimester. Again the angst of the news media for late term abortions was sickening.
It sounds to me that the doctors killed her through their own incompetence.

Exactly, but the emotional propagandizing of this case, and others, got a lot of babies killed
....and whether one gets the covid vaccine is between the doctor and patient. Right?
Are modern women so helpless they don’t know how not to get pregnant?...”I don’t know, but I found myself pregnant”...OK...femme moderne..... don’t feel too bad lady....your man bears responsibility too.
Sometimes....I have a very bad notion that many woman use sex to “keep” their man. Just like men use money to keep their women. When pregnancy doesn’t engender manly and parental instinct in the bio. father....the baby is discarded. The ruse did not work.
Some states will still let you MURDER your child, liberals! You can murder your child in CA, NY and IL amongst others.

So,what about the “ horse paste”?🤔
See post #17. She had sepsis, failed to treat her and then it was negligence after that.
Sorry to hear that. Prayers to your sister...
2012?
Anyway, ya gotta break a few eggs....
MSM never touched the story until the trial, and then tried to defend him.
