An avid hunter of endangered animals was shot dead in South Africa after his truck broke down, according to new reports.

Riaan Naude, the 55-year-old head of Pro Hunt Africa, was found dead next to his vehicle in Marken Road, Limpopo. Cops said they have no motive yet.

Two hunting rifles were found in Naude’s car near the Kruger National Park wildlife reserve, local outlet Maroela Media reported June 9.

Back in the days of Teddy Roosevelt’s big game safaris one could understand the allure of having a trophy on the wall because it truly was an adventure to achieve. One had to pack all the supplies to a remote Wilderness, hazarding tropic diseases,,weather and various dangerous animals without the expectations of help. One had a story equal to the mounted beast.

Nowadays the “hunter” flies in to the game preserve, guaranteed a kill, then takes selfies and flies out.

What a great story to tell the grandkiddies/sarc.

Actually, one additional money maker would be to issue a poacher-hunting license. You get to shoot the poacher and keep the head.

The body goes to feed the wildlife...

Photo safaris provide about 10% of the game animal tourism industry. If your claim were true nobody would be in the hunting business. They would all be photographers.

Say what you want about these hunts but the animals harvested are at the end of their life cycles and the taking of them is necessary to the survival of their species.

The cost of the licenses are animal specific and cost in the thousands.

Those dollars are directed specifically to fund the soldiers whose responsibility is to hunt down and either arrest or kill the equally armed poachers.

Without such funding from these specific outfitters such as Pro Hunt Africa, the poachers would decimate the animal population in Africa.

The killing of Riaan Naude, the 55-year-old head of Pro Hunt Africa , was clearly an assassination............

It stuns me, the responses on this thread.

This guy was probably executed by a criminal gang. And this thread evolves into criticism of “trophy hunting” and implications that he deserved his fate because he was involved with “trophy hunting”. I know nothing about trophy hunting, but apparently we are supposed to be angry about that activity. And due to that anger, we are to have no sympathy that he was killed.

“... if you don’t eat it, don’t kill it.”

I’ve known several big game hunters, personally. After a kill, the animal is slaughtered and its meat provided to a nearby village, that lives off of it for weeks. Trophy hunters are good for the local economy, as well as directly good for the locals.

The cliches about trophy hunting is pretty much inaccurate in most cases that I’m aware of.

You are wasting your time with anti-hunting idiots. They are against hunting, and do nothing to conserve the species.

These are the stupid individuals who cheer when confiscated ivory is torched, which then drives up the price on the black market, and encourages poachers even more.

The confiscated ivory should flood the market and drive the price down.

I know how you feel but sometimes we have to have a proper discussion on the matter.

I enjoyed the illustration about shooting the “big bucks”.

Never understood the trophy hunter mentality. Good riddance.

It's good to know you have nothing against hunting per se.   It may be what keeps you alive in the near future.

He’s killing ENDANGERED animals. Well, he was.

He wasn’t killing endangered animals you moron. If they were endangered it wouldn’t be legal to hunt them.

It is a common practice of liberals to look at one point of system and make a fast judgement.

“You do not have the slightest understanding of the positive dynamics of so called trophy hunting on the health, vigor, and size of the herd at large.

But get lead around by your emotional response if you please.“

All made up silliness. (Led)

F this clown who makes (made) real hunters who eat (their family eating too) their kills look bad. This clown was killing magnificent animals and making big money (profiteering) guiding those betas who wanted to rack up a prestigious African kill.

iow — He guides an incel clown who kills a giraffe. He makes a few thousand dollars.
