A 10-year-old child abuse victim was forced to seek an abortion in Indiana after her home state of Ohio barred abortion following the Supreme Court decision to overturn of Roe v. Wade.
A child abuse doctor in Ohio sought the help of Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist, on Monday to help the girl get an abortion after the state banned the procedure after six weeks - hours after the 6-3 Supreme Court vote, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
The child was six weeks and three days pregnant - therefore, ineligible by just three days to receive the procedure in her home state.
Abortion advocates in the state attempted to halt Ohio's six-week abortion ban, but the effort was denied by a judge on Friday.
As of Friday, Indiana's only abortion restriction is a law requiring clinics to ask women if their abortion is coerced - which is illegal, Fox 59 reported.
The law went into effect on July 1 and more restrictions might pass in the state following The Indiana General Assembly hearing on July 25.
'It's hard to imagine that in just a few short weeks we will have no ability to provide that care,' Bernard told The Columbus Dispatch.
Until then, abortion providers in Indiana say they have noticed the impact of the overturn of Roe, claiming they have seen an increase of patients coming from out of state to receive the procedure, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
The Women's Med, an Indiana abortion clinic that also has a center in Ohio, has received patients in need of an operation from their Ohio clinic.
Dr. Katie McHugh, an OBGYN in Indiana, has witnessed 'an insane amount of requests' from women in Ohio and Kentucky seeking an abortion.

Well you know now that they can’t hide their crimes...
You have not thought this out very well. You need to acknowledge that abortion is a shorthand euphemism for the deliberate killing of an innocent human being before it is born. Murder (the unjust premeditated killing of one human being by another) does not belong in quotes here because that is what abortion is, but is not what capital punishment is. And capital punishment differs completely from abortion in that the condemned is not a defenseless, innocent human baby. I suggest you look this issue straight in the face and see it for what it is. Only then can you have a clear grasp of the issue.
Statistically, even something very unlikely, if given enough opportunities, will happen.
But using that rare exception to make an argument is another issues.
People have also been struck by meteorites.
https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/meteorite-strikes-alabama-woman
People choke to death on hot dogs, using a nasal flush, getting crushed by a vending machine, by having stacks of coin boxes in their money truck fall on them, from a wedgie, water injection from a fall while water skiing, getting hit in the balls by a tennis ball, riding a Segway off a cliff, by electrocution from a live microphone (on stage in front of an audience)...
People have died from flying lawnmowers at baseball half time shows.
Yes. Even something that only has a .0000001% chance of happening, might happen when you have 6 - 7 billion folks all trying to compete for that prize every day! Hahaha
***The problem here is that they are using a rare exception to make some point which does not really exist.
“You have not thought this out very well. You need to acknowledge that abortion is a shorthand euphemism for the deliberate killing of an innocent human being before it is born. “
I am not disagreeing about what morally is.
I am only suggesting I might be willing to make those very strict exceptions, for those cases only, and only because the conception was not brought on by the voluntary choice of the female. I understand HER plight, whether or not you agree.
I'm not saying it didn't happen. It could've happened.
My issue is, now we're going to be subjected to all of these personal anecdotes from doctors about all of these 10-year old rape victims that need abortions.
The same personal anecdotes we've been subjected to about unvaccinated Covid victims.
Are they true? Could be, I suppose, but after having smoke blown up my ass for the past two years, I'm going to take all of these anecdotal stories with a grain of salt and a healthy dose of skepticism because, just like with Covid, they have an agenda to push.
I understand HER plight too— but I also understand the plight of the innocent unborn baby whom you seem to be downplaying. Just because we can hope that he or she will wind up in heaven, doesn’t justify subjecting an unborn child to an undeserved, painful, and barbaric death. Just about all murders of innocents could be committed using this same rationale.
Who says that a 10 year old needs to raise the child?
There are people that would adopt this kid.
There are people so desperate to have a kid, they would pay for all the medical costs and give her a gracious amount (for when she turns 18 it’s waiting for her) after they get the baby.
What you are doing is limiting the options/choices when in reality there are several/numerous.
It is a bad situation for sure.
But this 10 year old will still remember how she got pregnant (most likely) and that she had an abortion... You’re not going to “Format Disk/Delete all” and make it all good with an abortion (it’s not magical). That’s another thing to consider.
What is for sure though is that policies/regulations and laws need to be formulated for what is realistic, not some crazy outlying situation that constitutes a 1 in 100,000 situation for abortions. We do this everywhere else and we do not even think twice about it. Are you worried about being swallowed by an escalator?

And if I say I feel sorry for her, but am absolutely not concerned nor do I think we need to make any laws or regulations to deal with this issue, does that make me a heartless evil person?
This article using a 10 year old is an emotional appeal. It’s a little better than: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1o3NCPKZ4U
Do you have a 10 year old daughter?
I raised 2 daughters. Both were 10 year old at one time.
And NO, I would not them to go through 9 months pregnancy.
Their bodies are no where ready for it. But then you are not educated doctor, so you know very little.
I wish. It would be good to hang child rapists in public again.
She's 21 now. And no, she wouldn't have an abortion now nor would I have pushed for it back then even if it were rape.
Truth rests in consistency.
If that is a life (regardless of where the line is drawn), then it's also life once past that line even if conceived from a rape and regardless of the age.
Again, try making an argument that doesn't use “feelings and emotions.”

Did someone say that every day there are hundreds of schools atracked?
Typical, get the most extreme and exceptional case and use it as a club. Sounds like the Ohio law needs a tweak and whoever raped this girl needs to be shoved into a wood chipper.
I don’t base my arguments and personal worldview on emotions and feelings, like you do.
So we will have to remain at different positions.
Mary MacGregor:
Robert, there is more. I am with child... and I do not know who the father is.
Robert Roy MacGregor:
Ach, Mary...
Mary MacGregor:
I could not kill it, husband.
Robert Roy MacGregor:
It’s not the child that needs killing.
“Just about all murders of innocents could be committed using this same rationale.”
No, all murders of innocents do not have the context of the rape and incest against the innocent female.
It is not an argumnent for an open-ended gneral case, or a slipprry slope to it, but just two very specific special exceptions to the general case.
Exactly!
I’m having difficulty believing this story, too.
Oh good god, I never said I wondered if she could be raped.
It never ends, people thinking they are so positive they are right about their assumptions of what someone else is meaning.
I questioned the age.
