KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With the overturn of Roe v. Wade, conversations around women and contraceptives have ruled the headlines.
For the other half of the population, KSHB 41 News found out the inquiries for male care are high too.
“I didn’t ever envision myself talking about this, but it feels good,” Lyon Lenk said.
In the shade of his backyard, surrounded by four-pawed furry friends, 35-year-old Lenk doesn’t take priceless things for granted.
“You have to give it some serious thought,” he said. “We just want the basics, to have this yard and a choice in how our lives look like.”
One of those priceless moments is when he proposed to his fiancee with a family diamond smuggled from Czechoslovakia during the Nazi occupation.
“We got engaged at the beginning of the pandemic, because there’s just no one else I want to do this life thing with,” he said. “Kelsey is everything to me, I’ve never met a kinder, beautiful person.”
Which is why he’s sharing their decision in lieu of his fiancee’s medical history and the abortion ban.
“We’ve talked about me getting a vasectomy,” he said. “I’ve got to contemplate what could potentially be a lifesaving procedure for the person I love the most.”
Lenk says he knows the mass of his decision, has done the research and talked to his family and friends.
“It’s not a decision I make lightly, I’ll say that,” he said.
Dr. Christian Hettinger is a Urologist at the Kansas City Urology Care, where there are about two dozen clinics across the Kansas City area.
“One of our office managers said get ready” Hettinger said. “Since Friday, we’re up 900% in people looking to get a vasectomy."

Since their purpose is to prevent conception, vasectomies should be banned.
All they had to do was get the jabs, and save themselves the trouble of getting cut.
For faithful men who are married, a vasectomy is much better than a condom. More fun, too.
“Since their purpose is to prevent conception, vasectomies should be banned”.
Many men have vasectomies after they and their wives have the number of children they want.
Exactly. The elimination of Roe v. Wade is already having positive effects. Suddenly responsibility for one's actions is something (some) men are considering. (in this circumstance)
Apparently they were fine with shuffling that responsibility off on the women they slept with before.
I agree.
They are much better than getting the clap or chlamydia.
How about both of these nut genders tie their tubes, double protection.
And very expensive if it is possible to do.
After my 2nd C-section, I gladly had mine tied when the doc suggested it, back then 2 was your limit. 4 kids was enough. I was approaching the age cut-off anyway.
I’m talking about a married couple.
Wouldn’t the Ob/Gyn tie the tubes during the C-section while everything is already open?
My wife wanted two boys and two girls. I did my job, gave her what she wanted, and got snipped.
I don't even think about it. Everything down there works exactly the same, looks exactly the same, and neither of us have to worry about another child. I know kids are great but after four, I think I've done my part contributing to my genetic and cultural lineage.
A vasectomy cannot be equated with abortion.
But these physicians aren't. They're talking about performing vasectomies on never married men. Any man who would consider unprotected sex with a woman who is not his wife, is a fool. Unwanted pregnancy could be the least of one's problems.
Wouldn’t it be less hassle for everybody if concerned men just wore those golden scissors lapel pins that were popular some years back?
To some disturbed by this comment, remember the common saying during BJC and Monica years that lying under oath was ok, because “ everyone lies about sex.”
The real reason isn’t to partner up and take responsibility. It is to avoid being help liable until the hookups kids are 18.
“No way, hon, here’s my vasectomy records from 2022, ain’t no way I’m paying for your f-up ...”
Correct. It ended years later with painful adhesions, cysts, fibroids, and a full hysterectomy. So no more long monthlies. Never regretted either. Nor did it affect mine or my husband’s sex life, that is another fallacy that women who hate sex use. Just improved it. Till age caught up with us. He’s 83, I’ll be 74 in August. We enjoy cuddling now. Age gets everyone.
Unlike Middler wanting to do away with ED pills, let her pay for more free condoms.
seems weird cuz sounds like his nads are already in a jar
Getting snipped is probably better then being a partner to murder.
Especially if the mailman is good looking!
